From what i read: They found a way to shove all blame of future lawsuits onto a hapless backing company while transferring the locally hosted .torrent files to their mythical servers spread all over the world with nobody knowing exactly where they are. Like Peter himself said: If GGF screws up, the internet will tear them apart and the filesharing hydra just grows another head.

This will probably decentralize piracy.

Not deal a blow to it.

Reason why I like the KAD model on eDonkey. No central server, no tracker file. You just need to find an user using it to connect to everyone else like a regular web and your search goes from hop to hop in order to find the file you want. So either everyone is to blame, or nobody is to blame.

The look on my avatar's face sums up my opinion on this.

Argh.

So we're to believe a poorly named company that nobody has ever heard of before when they say they're buying out a site that has previously never cracked to any pressure, be it police, government, etc? Give me a break. The decentralizing stuff is a no-brainer but I'll believe the buyout when I hear it from the owners mouths

EDIT: Damn, just read the blog on the official site. Glad I've never been a huge TPB user -always prefer private torrent sites, they're faster and less virus prone.

@ brokep Is this correct? http://bit.ly/1YR0m

Peter S Kolmisoppi:
@ danielg0ldberg Yes.

Daniel Goldberg:
@ brokep What a thing! Who gets the money? Who owns the TPB?

Peter S Kolmisoppi:
@ danielg0ldberg Foreign company, with demands from our side to finance a fund for internet projects. We get no money.

Daniel Goldberg:
@ brokep Cool. What do you mean internet project? Will you not have to use the money to cover the damages?

Peter S Kolmisoppi:
@ danielg0ldberg Internet Project in the form of political activism, etc. TPB changed hands in 2006 already to not be sued.

Daniel Goldberg
@ brokep Congratulations, the scoop! Who is the owner of TPB today?

Peter S Kolmisoppi:
@ danielg0ldberg It’s partly why we’ve have been so sure that lawsuits against us is pointless in the end … :-)

Peter S Kolmisoppi:
@ danielg0ldberg I do not think that I may say for legal reasons. But they are people we trust. And have conditioned things too..

Watch out for that link to TPB's blarg.  The internet ad people flipped out and flooded me with popups so badly that when I managed to close the Firefox process it was using up almost a gig of RAM.

You see, this is why you don't use public trackers. They get shut down. ♥

good riddance...
Music industry just successfully sued the FARK out of some mother, hope this trend continues then spreads into software. I will feel no mercy for those that are screwed because of their actions.

Wait, what?  ???

Isn't that kinda against the point?
