Eh.  That game is micromanagement hell and takes too long to play.

Micromanagement hell? Seriously? I despise micromanagement to my very core and I found the game pretty simple and straight forward. Almost TOO simple and straight forward!

I love the game in concept but there's no way I'm shelling out that much money for it anytime soon.

A Moloch? Funny, that's what I'd imagine ArmOK to look like. Well done!

It's simple and straightforward at first, but as time goes on it gets worse and worse.  Ermor and R'lyeh specifically are really bad.

Oh, he speaks the truth, i was crazy enough to set me a scenario with 8 nations and no victory points, just to have something to keep me busy through a very boring sunday.
Been +7years into the game now, and i've only almost wiped out one of them, with Armok leading my Abyssians, which aren't the fastest troops in the world, also.

At least i wiped out most of them fomorians now, god they're one annoying kingdom to beat, nothing high level evocation and abyssia's units can't solve though.

I favor Ermor (particularily MA) and Mictlan (particularily LA).

it would really be so much better with a few really easy changes

1. pathfinding, I dont want to order my army around each turn until they arive! I just want to say GO THERE. (actually the game already uses a form of pathfinding to determine the movement of flyers, so I really don't see why it is that hard)
2. blood slaves should go to the gem pool instantly, ugh that would really save a lot of micromangement and make blood magic a lot more fun (decrease to ammount of slaves you get a little to balance things)
3. repeat recruitment option in cities (if you don't have enough money anymore just cancel the order and display a message at the start of the turn
4. abillity to order more then 1 commander at once (I don't care if they still get build 1 turn at a time, as long as I don't have to click each turn.
5. abillity to discard units (really those militias are annoying)

I also think armies should be able to move inside friendly territory without a commander, which also saves a lot of micromangement. And with that change it would be very easy to set a "go to" waypoint when recruited, which will save a LA ermor player 90% of his turn time

Ermor is already way too easy.  If they could move zombie armies around without a commander they'd be invincible.

The norse giants are pretty fun, IIRC.

LA Ermor? they die easily. Priest spam massacres them.

Mind you, though, while Ermor IS micromanagement hell, it can be solved by using your free tomb kings to ferry troops. LA Rlyeh doesnt give you even that because your freespawn are crazy and thus half of the time they´ll be fthanging instead of following orders

It has a lot of balance flaws. It's sort of a rock paper scissors thing, but almost impossible to shift from one to the others. But I sort of like that, it's more of a simulation thing.

I've never had much problem with micromanagement; it's far less than some other games, like Civilization, the Total War Games, Master of Magic, The Movies, Black & White.

Are you sure you guys are talking about Dominions 3? The third one is a lot faster than the 2nd.. I could win a game in just a day, which is much shorter than winning DF.

well, depends on the map. Pick one of the >300 provinces and throw in 10-15 nations. Long game guaranteed.

Agh. I read this thread and felt inspired to try the game out, so I downloaded the "demo" and gave the game a whirl.

I'm so glad I didn't buy it, because I'd be trying damn hard to get my money back. I can imagine a Dominions 3 that is easy to play, and a fun waste of time. But the Dominions 3 I'm forced to play is abstracted to hell and a pain to behold.

All that's missing is the game to verbally abuse you for not understanding it. :(

The AI fails to appreciate that fact.

Priests are also deliciously squishy.

yeah, the AI fails to appretiate that fact... unless it happens to play a nation with a tendence to build up priests anyway (for command or spellcasting). In which case you do get your armies banished.

Besides, your only half-decent chaff is spawned at forts, and its not exactly easy to put together the money to build one given the domkill effect.
