Probe teams are your friends. +1 economy from Wealth social engineering is your friend, since that lets you get the +1 energy per square everywhere without going Free Market, which means more money to spend on probe teams, rush building, and research. Spend the first bit cranking out formers to let you negate the population penalty by building bases everywhere. Bribing the AIs to attack each other is also fun.

Also, what OS are you running it on? That looks like a conflict caused by AC wanting to run in 256 colors. You might try either running it in compatibility mode or windowed, both of which might fix it.

I'm on Vista, 32. How do you run it windowed?

Also, I know how to do conquest with Morgan Industries, but it always feels like a lame way to me.

Especially since you have to rush to get Hunter-Seeker Algorithm before the University and wipe Miriam immediately (or Bribe everyone to war against her) to avoid her +2 probe.

alt-tab out of it, go to task manager, switch to AC. That works on XP, at least.
To run in compatibility mode, right-click and go to "compatibility options".

You don't need to destroy Miriam, you need to you use her as a bludgeon on other people while you out-tech her, then destroy her once you get airplanes + fusion. I like Morgan + conquest because it's difficult to pull off well.

Also, I might upload my own Alpha Centauri disc as an .iso to Megaupload if I had a good .iso making program. Any suggestions?

Pretty much any CD burning program will allow you to copy a disk image to a file, so I'd use whichever of those you have. It will be called "make image file" or something like that.
