I'm hoping that Jim and I aren't doing similar things.

I'm hoping that we're not either. It would be like two girls showing up to prom with the same dress. Though, it should be pretty obvious what I'd be building, since it involves large amounts of above ground constructions and requires both rivers to stop flowing, and it's big.

It sounds like things might be going better on your end, though, except with all the ambushes. I'm really far behind schedule, so much so that I don't think I'll make it. And if I do, I'd be so far behind in every other category that I doubt I'll win.

I understood nothing, contributed nothing, but still got to win, so good game everybody else.

Aargh, I got way to OCD with this challenge, I think I'm going to skip it and wait for the next one.

Allright, mine is nearly done. Only 3 seasons to go, but that should be enough.

Hope it wont be too similar to the rest... but it did require me to drain both rivers :P

We might be in the same vein, but I hope it'll be different enough. What I lack in scale I hope to make up for in aesthetics. I've only stopped the little river so far and am considering the big one, but my previous attempts at large river damming have been horrific failures and without savescumming, that's a big risk. I need another project at least, so I might give it a go.

I've got 5 seasons and 102 dwarves. That's enough time if I don't screw it up.

Almost finished the five years, and then...BANG! The idea!

"I could have built an entire aboveground city to protect the bridge!"

Bah too late!  ::)
I just hope someone has done something like this!

I got 86 dwarves (automn 1004), mostly because I lost like 20 dwarves to the gob...

Also, do you have any good artifacts?
A throne, a bow and a oaken casket. I kept them for the king, who will surely never come...
The other artefacts are just rubbish, as always with DF. :D

So... this looks pretty sweet and I'll probably join in for the next challenge.  Random question though: what did you use for making the isometric landscape pic in the first post?

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

When's the deadline?
I think I just might be able to finish by Sunday evening, otherwise I'll have to forfeit.

Whew. I was going to spend the whole of today playing this fort but SparkGear needed some resuscitation.

A recent siege brought this goblin to my fort:

Seems ominous.

It happens.  I got a fort where at least half of my dwarves wanted rough gems and there were none anywhere (raw glass wouldn't do).  So many senseless deaths. . .

phew..... i was worried about the deadline as well ah well bridge done and two side projects complete one of which being a claystone block obelisk cos i like egyption monuments  ;D no siege yet might be because i'm playing with only 60 or so dwarves with only 6 in the military (all i need for now) it is my 4th year and i cracked the whip so hard i lost 2 high master masons to a cave in and another 3 dwarfs to an ambush while out collecting wood from my legendary woodcutter. champion unbelivebly agile marksdwarves are officially the dwarven machinegun  ;)

I just realized, after adding the new body parts to the other races, that I have an entire squad of dwarves with a shield in each hand and swinging their axes with their penises. There's nightmare fuel for those goblins, in more ways than one.
