I should like to join as a judge, if I am able. =]

This is Dwarf Fortress, a masterly crafted game. It is adorned with bands of epic, and is studded with spikes of awesome. On the game is an image of a toad and many dwarves. The dwarves are worshipping the toad. The toad is laughing. The dwarves are dying.

I'll compete. Morul just running around killing stuff right now. Nothing much to build, and I like to build.

I would like clarification on the 'enemies must be able to path into the fortress' at the appropriate time.

I would like clarification on the 'enemies must be able to path into the fortress' at the appropriate time.

Basically, you can't have a Fortress which hermetically seals during an invasion; enemies must be able to find a way to enter the interior of your Fortress, and reach your Dwarves. This is mostly to prevent the lameness of a 1-tile Dry Moat stopping an 80-strong Goblin Army in its tracks, but also to up the challenge presented by Sieges, and to make a military more necessary.

Using pitfalls and drawbridges are okay, so long as the invaders can find an alternate route into the Fort once they are triggered. Weapon-trapped hallways are fine too, but they probably wont earn a lot of Originality points.

Hope that answers the question. I'll try to clarify with the finalized rules too.

major rivers are pretty impressive, they can span an entire embark tile, leaving only 1-3 walkable squares on either side of the river.  even so, the distance isnt that great given that massive bridge challenge that went on last year.

is it the idea (like in the old bridge challenge) that the entire fort should be built on the bridge?  should all living areas and farms also be up there?

I think that the difficulty should be upped by adding a requirement that either the major river must also be dammed, or that it has to be on a nano-embark so you only have a 1x1 to use to gather resources.

I wanted to kick this thing off with lighter requirements, so as not to scare away interested folks. However, custom challenges like damming the river, or building a fortress completely suspended over the lake is still completely feasible, and will likely be worth a ton of Optional Mega Project bonus points.

I'll judge, if you want.

I'd compete, but I'm terrible at taking screenshots at important moments, and even worse at uploading them :D

Probably pretty darned soon! The map is done, and I'm testing it briefly (and cheating with Reveal to scope for fun surprises) and after that, we'll be good to go.4

Can you take pictures with reveal and show the judges of anything special?

Exactly what I was thinking. Oh, and there should be no changing of anything in the init files. SO no pop cap, except for the one already there.

Yeah, I'll give judging a go. I can't guarantee anything, though.
