Take down just forces someone into prone, throwing will actually make your adventure try to throw someone, which results in the enemy getting prone.  They are nearly similar becuase adventures do not have the strength to actually throw someone with force.  I once tested an adventurer with size 200 and by throwing you could hurl someone into a wall with enough force to make them explode.  Throwing also breaks your grip on someone.

It's possible to cause targets to fly away from you with throws.

Imagine throwing as wrestling, and take downs as judo.

Prone opponents take extra damage, can't counter attack, and move far slower.

Throwing doesn't really seem to be that great, but to be fair, when you're knocking sleeping goblin highpriests off the topmost level of a dark fortress with a single blow from your crossbow, nothing really seems good enough to match up.

Breaking limbs and gouging out eyes is the whole fun of Wrestling, why I just made a new Adventurer wrestler who has already killed 6 or 7 wolves by throwing them around and strangling them!
He is seriously badass.

It's amazing really. A bowman that is completely asleep managed to wake up as soon as you touched him. Not to mention that while avoiding your grab, he managed to grab his bow and arrows, draw a shot and let go all while aiming it at your brain.

On that note, you should really be able to grab with both hands in one turn.
