No such gun laws in America. I live in a forest and people are hunting all night every night. Either that or some insane turkeys gobbling or dogs barking etc

I always liked the "gun laws" in the US. Basically everyone can get guns there AFAIK. [Expect for former prisoners I assume?]

Which is why we have such a high rate of murders compared to countries with gun laws. Here you can just buy a rifle and perch yourself on top of some  building and fire away. Or you could just go on the street with your brand new AK take out twenty people or drive-by some street and take out the guy who looked at you weirdly while you were waving a gun around next to your house. And now you can bring concealed weapons into parks. Why do you need them to be concealed?

When I go up to New Hampshire I fire guns all I want.
You are guns.
And then Toonyman was a zombie.

A well regulated militia

Does it say "Any old person should be allowed to have a gun, regardless of who they are"?  Anyway, I thought America already had a well organized militia.  It's called the US army.

PS: NNPC and Gazprom are starting up a joint gas drilling venture in Nigeria.  The name?  Nigaz.  Epic naming fail.

Nope. That's military, a militia is a military force formed from ordinary citizens. Although I don't know much about it, but I think the National Guard would be the militia.

Or the military reserve, or whatever.  Anyway, you get the idea.  It's supposed to be about defending the country, not just giving every nutcase a gun.

Well, if you want, you can get a gun everywhere.  ;)

I do know that in Arizona the 'militia' is written into the state law as any male between the ages of 16 and 40. But then the state law also says that women aren't allowed to wear pants so...

Quite possible.

Back when towns had to be defended from attackers often all the able adult males would take up arms in defense of that town.

Everyone should just adopt Australia's current system - You can have firearms but you need a good excuse and it takes about 6 month to a year to actually get your licence and start buying firearms (which have their own waiting periods of a month). That way the people who want guns can still get them (But have to be determined and responsible, as the police enjoy checking up on your storage when they get bored) and yet bugger all people actually have firearms. Also handguns are the mostt tightly controlled things ever.

Wait, why are we talking about guns?

I've moved around a little bit in the last year but the main street I lived in (my parents) was pretty good. Mostly pensioners and middle-class families, can leave your car/house unlocked for weeks and you'd have to be the unluckiest person in the town for anything at all to happen to it. The current place I'm in sucks balls, it's packed to the brim with bogans and we live right next door to a bottleshop, so every weekend I find dozens of bottles and cans have been thrown in the back of my ute. Also there's a pub right next to the bottleshop which means I get to hear the intimate details of every single fight that gets kicked out of there.

Dunno quite what makes these two towns so different either, they're about 20km apart, one's like an idylic seaside retirement town and this one's filled with vandals and bored/drunk morons. Maybe it's the flat terrain and those horrible shrubs that grow in the area, it sends them insane and they all start inbreeding.

Probably some kind of poverty spiral thing.  The schools in poor towns will be worse funded, and so the people there will get a worse education, so they may slip into crime too.  The really clever ones would just leave anyway and find a job somewhere else, resulting in a brain drain.  Maybe.

I agree...this sounds like a very good system.

You guys are lucky. My neighborhood is just a bunch of old people that want you to visit them all the time.
