Yep, Open Beta.

It's like Team Fortress 2 graphiclikes, but in third person, and more about the original Battlefield feel, where you're just in a big war.

I don't know really what to say about this game yet, I'm still downloading it
:/

My name's Calviner, if ya wanna battle.

The old-school style in the the video on the front page (the audio) evokes some memories. I heard about this a long time ago, and if I recall you must pay to get exclusive content that is probably game-imbalancing.

The TF2 forums rag on this game all the time.  I don't know much else about it.

Microtransactions defeat the purpose of being free to play, as the people with the money will constantly pwn everything forever, and everyone else is fucked.

Yes, you can in fact buy, not just decorations, but weapons and abilities.

I tried to play it. After several crashes and a forced reboot while trying to create a character, i got tossed on a server by the autojoin option, which was the only way to get in game back then(and fro what i heard, still is). I spawned and was promptly killed by sniper. The kill screen showed the stats of said rifle and a huge button labeled "buy this gun now". I quit and uninstalled.

It's a pathetic attempt to milk the BF series. The fact that they are simultaneously developing 4 games(heroes, bad company 2, 3 and 1943) of which atleast 3 are confirmed shallow ripoffs gives the impression that DICE is heading in the same direction as Westwood.

No actually you can't.

All weapons are rented using game earned "VP" All abilities are gotten from "Hero Points" which are gotten every couple levels.  The only thing money gets is clothes, a couple emotes and some "wrenches" with a few more uses.

Yes, actually you can. You can use battle funds to simply increase your experience and VP, which amounts to the same thing.

And yet, if they feel they are losing money, they will almost certainly add a slightly more powerful but extremely overpriced new weapon, and if they are still losing money, they wil add another, and another, and so on, maybe server entry requirements, a damage reduction purchase....

The only way to play effectively WILL be to pay, sooner or later.

And if they put a DRM into it, you already ARE paying, though not in money.

From the trailer, I gather it takes itself less seriously than TF2.

I don't think TF2 ever meant itself to be taken seriously. Case study: Constant bitching of fans before release about art style and ruining TF, constant bitching about classes, constant bitching about weapons, constant bitching about random weapon drops, constant bitching about abilities...

Just the fans take it serious. The TF2 devs do random balancing work but that's about it, they try to keep the game fun.

It also shows that the TF2 people love their fans more than L4D devs. lol expansion/new game instead of free content.
