[40d] Dwarves refuse to leave, "frozen"

When I build an alcove for me Trade Depot 1 z-level down from my defenses (same level as the trenches), the come down and dig them out but then they stay there and don't move, as if frozen. This bug is repeatable, even when I dig it in different places there.

Erm... can you show us a map or something? Any better description of what you're doing? "Trench" and "alcove" are pretty vague.

The DF Map Archive would be by far the best way of showing us what's going on, but if it's a fairly simple setup you can also just use text inside code tags (which keep the font width fixed).


I'm guessing it has something to do with ramps, though.

Yeah, I'm gonna bet that you tried to use ramps to make a U-turn, or you dug out around the base of the ramps so they don't have walls next to them.
