Dog avenging owner's death?
« on: June 24, 2009, 01:12:16 pm »

I just lost a fisherdwarf to a sturgeon. I had assigned Urist McDead a war dog, and after the corpse was hauled away, the dog hung out by the river and eventually was successful in killing the sturgeon (Ending up badly wounded in the process). Was this a revenge attack, or do "orphaned" war dogs just go after the nearest enemy anyway?

Actually, pets who's owners died tend to stay at the spot where said owner died, most likely the dog was attacked by the sturgeon in question.
It's kind of manly, in a way.

Likewise, I've had donkeys mill about where their owners died, and then get killed by ambushes. If you go to the animals menu, I think you can reset this behavior by making them unavailable for adoption. Or it might have no effect at all.
