Well, I technically have a character on Viridian, too, but he's all novice/able since I never used him, so he doesn't count.  =P

My stats have gone to hell after a long period of not playing.  I'm better then that, I promise!

If stats decay, then I'm actually kind of scared that I'm still ocean-wide Ultimate.

I'm at work for another 5-6 hours, can someone please tell me that I'm not still on the top 10 bilgers?  D:

You need to have played that particular puzzle in the last week or so to be on the ultimates list, in my experience at least.

They don't DECAY, per se.  They just get re-sorted with other pirates' stats, even when you're not there.

Ah right.

So whose crew are we flocking to?

I will join this venture, once we are sure where we are going. I haven't played yet, but it seems interesting so once I get a server name to join, I will come with you guys.

Go to the Viridian server.  No subscription required.

If you want to get a badge that lets you hold an officer rank in a crew, or get a civilian job though, you'll need to blow some of your hard-earned Pieces of Eight to buy doubloons off of someone.  Generally though, you can get those basic badges from just one day of pillaging, and then they'll last for a month.  Don't worry about it, and they're not even necessary; they are "nice-to-have"s.

If you're new to Puzzle Pirates, you might want to spend some time on a navy ship after doing the tutorials.  Don't freak out when they don't seem to pay you much--NPCs pay crap, the real money comes once you start pillaging with players!  Just make sure you know which end of your sword is the pointy end before you do that :D  (Navy ships won't get into fights 9 times out of 10, but you can practice swordfighting one-on-one with most NPCs on shore.  NPCs have a two-part name instead of one-part, and their names are white.)

Alright. And I hear most people RP in Puzzle Pirates? I guess I could do that.

Surprisingly much so!  For certain values of RP.

The reason there's so much RP is that, well, there's no possible harm in it.  You can RP right alongside your metagaming, because you're PIRATES, and of COURSE you want treasure!

Getting a bunch of gold and then blowing it all at the poker table IS roleplaying!  It's also something that people do all the time.

And well, if your captain gives an order, chances are it's a good idea to follow it...and it's just plain good fun to shout "AYE CAPTAIN!" on the way.  And who doesn't want to yell "AARRRrrrr!" during the brief pause when you're entering a swordfight?

People with real power tend to have in-character power because, well, that's just how it works.  For a casual and simplified game, they tied the gameplay mechanics to the world -astoundingly- well.  You won't have deep plots, but people do act in character.

Navy ships don't get into fights, period, unless you're doing the hunting for brigands mission.

As far as RP...  eh, not REALLY.  Some people speak in a piratey way, but that's about it.

Except for politics.  Oh, the politics... *stays far away*

And I'm kinda-sorta playing again (for a time), so it looks like I'll be showing up to do something with my crew on Hunter tomorrow.  Other than that, maybe I'll try actually doing stuff on Viridian.

Alright, creating a character now. Never liked puzzle games too much, but a good pirate simulator is something I've been interested in for awhile.

good pirate simulator

I am REALLY looking forwards to seeing your reaction.

Let me put it this way:  If you were hoping for realism, I apologize.  :)

However, if you just like the potential joy of having MANY dozen players all working together to further the operation of a single grand frigate...well, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking of. The teamwork thing sounds fun.
