It depends how large a house you're going for.  If you return your starting shack I believe you can get another one on any island for free, or you can just set an inn as your "home".

Looks like I can't even get to Dragon's Nest...

According to YPPMaps, I started on Viridian's Onyx sector of islands. I traveled to Tigerleaf Mountain, which is on the map connected to Dragon's Nest. However the port gave me no free ferry, just other islands in the Onyx sector.

How do I get to DN... do I need to hop on a player ship going in that direction? What's the etiquette for hitching a ride in YPP?

Or you can accept the invite I sent you to come to my house on DN.

And...  bleh.  I don't like the looks of that site.  Too flash-y.  You should look on the YPPedia (which is their name for their wiki) instead, there are maps there.  As well as other stuff.

I went pillaging with a random crew... got into three fights, my team won them all! I've earned a bit more than 600 PoE in a short time bringing me to 1550 PoE, just 400 PoE short of buying that 10 doubloons offer I've seen.

I think for the dubloon trading the price means how much it costs for each dubloon the person is selling.

Check to see when there's blockades coming up.  For taking part in a flag-vs-flag war, you can get LOADS of money.  The ones lately have been paying 4k per segment--and a segment is about 10-20 minutes.  Plus, you get even more if you score high in the duty puzzles.
