A friend has died of cancer
« on: June 24, 2009, 05:50:51 am »

I meet her in England, on holiday, when I was a child. We played boardgames, chatted, I asked if I could stay at her house despite barley knowing her. When we left she hugged me. We never went back, our flight didn't allow it. Afterward I learned she had a crush on me. She actually slept with my picture above her bed. And now, so many years later, she's been diagnosed with cancer and after two rounds of chemotherapy, the prognosis says she has one month. I can't do anything. This is the third person I know personally that will die of cancer and I'm going to be halfway around the world. I'm writing this because I need to tell someone and throwing it out into the wider world by means of the internet seems like the best way to do so. All I can really do is hope she survives. I'm sorry for the people on this forum (like Labs) who have just, or have, managed to overcome cancer and I'm sorry for those who currently have it, this topic may not help. But I need to say this. It's unfair. And I need to hope for her and I need to pray for her. And if you believe in a God, I'd ask you to do the same and if you don't, please, just hope.

Uuh...
I feel sorry for you, Jack, really.

I have prayed for her safety, may our wish is granted by the Creator!

But I need to say this. It's unfair.

Well yeah, this is how we feel, when someone -who we like- will die/died. It's pretty normal. Either way...sad stuff, but this is life, and life can be cruel... :-\

Bad things happen to those who least deserve it. If it makes you feel any better she took the time to find you and tell you. Do your best to keep the lines of communication open whether she makes it or not.

Whenever I hear of death or tragedy I do get sad.

Lord save her.

I know how you feel Jacky.

One of my father's friend died of cancer recently. He lived with us when I was a child, and we pretty much got a "new father" relationship sorta thing.

And it's still hard for me to live now, because the only person who doesn't smoke in my family is my mother. Brother, father, and sister are heavy smokers.

It seems that this kind of thing often happens to people who don't deserve it in the slightest.  My mother's friend, who had never hurt anyone and was always kind and helpful died of ovarian cancer tragically young.  I've also lost a sibling to a rare heart condition.

As I'm non religious, I guess I'm going to hope that the doctors are wrong and that she recovers fully.

Thank you, all of you. It really does help. Except possibly toonyman.  >:( :D

And I know that over 90% of children survive and I know unfair things happen. But it still gets me. It still gets me.

Anyway, thanks to all of you.

Don't worry, I'm going to die form lung cancer real soon.  Karma sucks.

Really though, we all hope for the best.  It's not the easiest thing to live through.
