...Oh. That's not a row. I read 'row' as a single line.

That's the only way to read "row".  He means "group" or something.

16x16 is as big as it gets, right?

46 tiles squared, so like a million tiles each region tile.

Plus z-levels, if you want to get creative and think beyond 2 dimensions.

(Same thought as DB) - If you're going with an "army" of statues, then I'd go with parade formations, maybe squads of 7-8 of one material led by a sergeant of another, several of those for a platoon led by a ltnt of another, several of those for a company led by a captain of yet another, and so on - progressively more valuable each.  Whatever strikes you.

That could be manipulated to give a brigade/whatever of 2k or so.

That's completely impossible.
1. You can't make reactions which depend on what is in a bucket/bag. You can make an adamantine statue from an empty bucket, but you can't make an empty bucket from a bucket filled with something.
2. Buckets of water and sand bags are special because water and sand are not real items. For example, you can't take the sand out of the sand bag.
3. You can't edit the reactions at the kiln. You can only edit smelter reactions.

I'm surprised you can mod smelter reactions but not kiln reactions. It feels like terracotta should be baked, hence the kiln. I guess the smelter would work too, but the kiln would be more authentic.

I'm also surprised you can't make a reaction like the one used to make lye. That requires a bucket. (I thought the bucket needed to have water, but perhaps not.)

I'm also surprised that sandbags can't be used in reactions. I know you can't take the sand out of a bag, but sandbag is still a different item than bag.

I thought of putting in clay clusters, but that seems like you'd have to regen the world to get the clusters in, and the OP already has the room carved out in a running fortress. I thought if we could devise a way to create clay and mod it in, that would work. Perhaps adding reactions requires world gen also, so that point is entirely moot?

i mean, what kind of military gives people weapons straight off and tells them to go hit each other with them, with no proper training.
The same guys that think its a good idea to make magmafalls.

Okay. A row could mean a line in a pattern.

You see, booze is a parasite. It lives off dwarves and compels them to dig into the ground so as to create massive defences to protect it's self. It really shouldn't be called dwarf fortress, Booze fortress would make much more sense.

Well, you can't add new reactions, but you can edit reactions that already exist. If you don't have HFS, you can just edit [REACTION:ADAMANTINE_WAFERS] to have a different name, different reagents and different products. But you can't add clay. You can turn, say, felsite into clay by editing the raws, but that would be kind of cheap. :D
But, yeah... Trust me on the modding aspects, I experimented with using and creating sand and it just doesn't work. A sandbag is not a new item, it can't be found in the raws as such and sand isn't an item, either. It's just there.

i think that the coolest think to do would be to have rows of different materials. make the ones farthest from the kings tomb the least valuable, such as granite and stuff. but the ones that are the nearest to the king out of silver, gold, platinum, ect. even the magic HFS metal if you have it. then line the walls with your orcs.

lastly, you need a large space behind all the statues, with a massive crown on the floor, and the actual coffin in the center of it. depending on your fort theme, it could be your fort symbol, a dragon, a skull, ect.

surround the coffin area with a lava moat and a very valuable bridge over it. surround the coffin itself with the kings possesions and a ton of valuable furnature and armour. line the walls with waterfalls. make your treasure room of coins behind that.

then seal the whole shebang off with walls and trap the bejeezus out of the path leading to the area!

always possible to make magmafalls instead of waterfalls if ya want, and be sure to power them with some dwarven perpetual motion machines so they keep going forever to sooth the soul of the dead king

(hey, if its worth doing, its worth overdoing i say! :D)

Erm... One embark tile= 48 tiles, no?

2000/48=41.66...

Tell me you meant 200. Tell me you're not (somehow) using a 42x42 embark. Because if you do, I shall hunt you down and steal your computer.

One embark tile = 48x48 = 2304 tiles. Basically he's going to pave 4 embark tiles with statues. Dwarfy.

(Think about it for a minute - if he couldn't build 2000 statues, you wouldn't be able to get 2000 stone - they take up exactly the same amount of space)

*Grump* I thought he meant a single file of 2000 statues. Which would be a good trick.

If you have so many options for material, you could make a ranked army.

General Aluminum, Sergeant Obsidian, Private Granite...something like that.

I like this idea, I'll have to do this myself!

Not quite sure why, but I didn't get the "Warm stone located" message and flooded my fortress with magma, go figure.

So I restarted at a new location. Have my primary living location built and self sustaining, just working on digging my new, improved tomb out.

Although after setting the designations and digging it all out I did some quick math and found my new tomb has WAY more statues.

Uh somewhere along the lines of oh... 18000 statues... Ya that number scares me a bit, but there is no price for a REALLY awesome tomb. Will post the fortress when the digging is complete and before I start placing statues.

Update.

So I have 3 of the 4 main statue pits excavated. 1 Almost entirely cleared of stone, the other 2 halfway there. 37 catapults working at a constant rate to clear the stone in an efficient and lag reducing manner. So far 500 statues have been produced by idle masons in between block building. Noble housing remains non existent.

Glass and Smithy in the process of being set up to construct my Glass, Iron, and Steel Statues. Holding Stable at 70 dwarves to minimize pathing lag. Will have a map up soon.

sorry to hear that the fort got the firey death :P also, i think you may set a new dwarf record for number of statues. 18000? holy carp! depending on what they are all made from, you may also set a record for fort-wealth when your done. after all, a masterpeice platinum statue is worth 12,000☼. and thats just one of many!

care to share the general layout you have for the tomb?

Here... For the front page if you're going to keep track.

You can modify the 500&d portion of the code to update your progress

And you can borrow this of mine from my Achievment Unlocked post.

Modify the code when you're finished.
