Many Statues
« on: June 24, 2009, 03:49:56 am »

Okay. So I decided to make my King's Tomb into something special. And while I was searching for an idea I remembered the Terracotta army. Naturally I stopped and went "Hmm, that would work."

So I have a nice space carved out. I've thought of a few ways to incorperate Magma and Water into this. And I have spots for my 8000+ statues. The question is, Do I make them entirely out of one material? Or do I mix it up a bit.

I was thinking that I would probably make each row of 2000 a different material. 1 row of Green Glass, 1 row of Obsidian, 1 row of Clear Glass and 1 row of Dwarven obsidian or another type of metal made using the Obsidian mod. The throne room and coffin section will have statues made out of Gold, Platinum and Silver.

There will also be 2 treasury rooms filled with coins, and a room filled with Orcs in Steel cages, to forever watch over their mortal enemies tomb. Plus all my kings mortal possessions will be moved down there as well.

Any idea's to improve it?

You see, booze is a parasite. It lives off dwarves and compels them to dig into the ground so as to create massive defences to protect it's self. It really shouldn't be called dwarf fortress, Booze fortress would make much more sense.

Erm... One embark tile= 48 tiles, no?

2000/48=41.66...

Tell me you meant 200. Tell me you're not (somehow) using a 42x42 embark. Because if you do, I shall hunt you down and steal your computer.

Well, not quite 2000. Each Row is 1989 statues. 13 statues wide by 153 deep. But close enough.

Nice...

Add small clusters of even different type statues along the sides of those massive rows for extra bonus.

What about encircling his tomb with rings of statues, increasing in value: copper, iron, silver, gold, platinum.

Also, you need more metal statues, iron and steel can be imported and smelted from human an dwarf caravans if you don't have enough on your embark.

16x16 is as big as it gets, right?

46 tiles squared, so like a million tiles each region tile.

Mod in terracotta. Make them out of that. You could have clay gathered like sand from appropriate soil layers, then add a reaction in the kiln to fire a bag of clay into a terracotta statue.

As far as I know, the sand gathering is hardcoded and you can't use sand bags in smelter reactions.

I think you should make a mosaic with all your statues. Maybe a smiley face? Or a pick? Or a giant freaking dragon chewing on elves?

...Oh. That's not a row. I read 'row' as a single line.

I'm sure it could be approximated. Perhaps not with the zone requirement. Put in something that makes a sand bag + bucket of water = empty bucket + clay bag, then a second reaction to make clay bag = empty bag + terracotta statue at a kiln.

If you have so many options for material, you could make a ranked army.

General Aluminum, Sergeant Obsidian, Private Granite...something like that.
