Finding a modded-in creature... in Adv. Mode
« on: June 23, 2009, 01:01:31 am »

Okay, so I'm kinda annoyed.
I made this new modded creature very common (you see 10 in a pack at a time, with about thirty total showing up each year) and I see them tons of times in Dwarf Fortress mode.
The literally spawn like one screen away near a pool (they have the [AMPHIBIOUS] tag).
I cant get rid of the things.
But that isnt the problem.
I am in Adventure mode, looking for the things.
Cant find them at all.
Not even one trace, aside from the bone crafts
And their symbol is a blue friggin 5 for carp's sake.
Why are they so common in Dwarf Fortress but impossible to find in Adventure Mode?

Oh, I am looking in the exact same place they were at in Dwarf Fortress.
But no dice.

Are they large predators?

I have the opposite problem. My creatures are quite rare in Fortress mode, but you can't walk five tiles in Adventure mode without bumping into a pack of them and instantly dying.

I MIGHT have a hypothesis, though. First show us your raws.

They're basically an amphibious version of the merpeople but they also live in swamps, grasslands and savannas.

Post the raws anyway.

I have an interesting variation of the problem...what file are their raws in?

I meant I'd like you to post the entire raw entry for your new creature, sorry. You can put it inside spoiler tags to reduce clutter.

Possibly [UNDERSWIM] is your problem... I don't know what that does for a creature that can go on land.

So in Dwarf Fortress they are all either noticably sticking out of the water or on land, but in Adventure mode, the sheer smell of the 20 bodies I carry in my backpack drives them underwater?

Perhaps [FANCIFUL]?

If it has fanciful, I have no idea why it's turning up in fort mode, though.

Remove [BENIGN] and replace with [LARGE_PREDATOR]. Only predators will attack you in adventure mode.
