So who died and elected Goron threadnazi? Nobody said that 'play before you die' means it has to be the fundamental game of it's type. That's projecting your own opinion of what that means onto the entirety of the rest of the thread, and then disagreeing and getting all annoying whenever someone disagrees with your opinion. Nuts to that.

Moving right along, Grand Theft Auto 3 and it's spinoffs have lead to many an imitator and a general trend towards open world chaotic rampages.

bold its mine

Getting annoyed? I only see one person annoyed right now and it seems to be you, no one else (including myself) made any directional personal addresses.
If you think I am going overboard for insisting that people who like Morrowind should play Daggerfall , well, I call Nuts to that. And if you think I am a threadnazi for arguing that Arcanum is just a refurb hack of Fallout, well, I call Nuts to that.

I provided reasoning and explanation for every point I made.

Oh, Tilla, can you stop forcing your opinion that GTA 3 lead to many imitators on me? I'd appreciate if you didn't project it on me like that.  :-*

What is it with all the uber-aggressive annoyances on these forums, nowadays? They never used to be like this.

Arcanum is totally worth playing if you A) Really liked the combat system in fallout, or B) Love Steampunk and C) Don't mind rather somber violin music.

Personally, I find the music to be an enthralling aspect of the game, but your mileage may vary...

To quote the Master Toad rather loosely, "we must maintain our chill composure."

And build more farms, to continue unit production.

in addition to all that, Arcanum had one of the most unique and well written backstories, as well as the best multi-pathed storyline i've ever seen in a game.

I liked Arcanum, and agree with Keiseth about the music, the steampunk, and the Fallout similarities. I'd disagree on the branching plot, since I really disliked certain bits of it (spoilered)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I'd argue Fallout 2 for best multi-pathed RPG storyline, though I keep hearing good things about Planescape: Torment, so I'll have to get around to playing that eventually.

To contribute to the thread:

Homeworld (Best single-player RTS campaign I've ever encountered. Great music, great atmosphere, great multiplayer)
Fallout 2 (Great plot, great characters, near-total freedom while maintaining a sense of purpose most of the time)
One of the great TBS 4x games. I'd suggest Alpha Centauri, STARS!, or Galactic Civilizations, but really just something that does that genre well.
Sins of a Solar Empire (Real-time 4x. Only RTS I've seen that does Hero units well. Manages to translate "one more turn" syndrome into real time.)

Why yes, I do like strategy games, how could you tell?
