Entire map is inaccessible to wagons! (fixed)
« on: June 22, 2009, 01:11:03 am »

Yeah, every square on my new fortress's area map is inaccessible to wagons, and I'm trying to find out why.  I have trade depot build and not forbidden, the stone type is not forbidden either.  There aren't too many trees or boulders that they wouldn't be able to find a path.  And the location has access to all four standard civilizations.  The traders from my first caravan are on their way with their pack animals, though.

I'm guessing this: The accessibility system depends on there being wagons that have been able to path to the depot, and my first caravan spawned in a wagon-inaccessible location.  Once wagons spawn in an accessible location, the pathfinding algorithm is run, and the data from it is there for the depot access screen to display.

I'd like to know what the real reason is, and/or if my hypothesis is correct.  Thanks.

Edit: I found the problem-wagons can't pass over down stairs unless they have hatch covers on them.

Anyway, I figure that the dwarves are only marginally less wasteful of metal than they are of wood. The moody dwarf's selecting only the best 5% of each bar of metal, and eats the rest to sustain him as he works on the artifact.

The accessability(is that a word?) is determined from the depot to the edge. Probably there is some boulder just in front of you're depot. Just draw a 3 wide line from you're depot and remove trees and smooth boulders.

New question! If I were to remove elves [INTELLIGENT] tag in the raws, would it work?

Also, wagons sometimes spawn on their side. Make the entrance to the map bigger than 5 tiles.
