Arrows must be some sort of magnetic corkscrews, imbued with the souls of the damned, who seek vengeance in the form of face-organs even in death.

A very worthy statement considering your avatar.

The limestone rock was spinning, it hit the cyclops rights ear, (badly bruising it),spins over the back of his head, (bruising it), hitting is left ear, (badly bruising it), continuing it's directory and being stopped by his nose, (which is bruised in the proces). The falling stone then apparantly hits the throat in it's fall ("blackening" it) because the cyclops bend his head backwards wondering what the fuck just happened.

Or the stone fell into fragments in the and hit the body parts separately.

Maybe the stone bounced off the cave walls?

Ah. So this is how pinball was invented.

I'm curious what the barely conscious ai wrote about.
Well that went better than expected.  He went nuts and punched a rabbit to death, then the dogs and the whole dining hall ripped him to shreds.

Sorry, this one was hard, I had to sleep on it. I was also thinking of bouncing off the cave walls, but I wanted to think of something less contrived before resorting to that. Luckily, I did.

Notice the cyclops is next to a wall.

The spinning stone strikes the cyclops in the left ear! It is badly bruised!
The cylops' skull is smashed diagonally into the adjacent wall! The skull is bruised! The right ear is badly bruised! The nose is bruised!

The violent twisting err...'blackens' the throat!

Not quite sure what a blackening is, so I'm assuming it's like blacking an eye.

If not...

Idla throws a stone! It spins, becoming a spinning stone!
Amazing! It was thrown with such force the friction melted it! It is now a glowing blob!
The glowing blob splatters over the cyclops' head!
The [stuff] is bruised!
The cyclops attempts to wipe off the glowing blob! It mostly works!
The throat is blackened by the heat!

(Yes, Toady implemented re-entry forces. He just hasn't entirely updated the wound reports yet.)

It started raining, then all my dwarves outside started bleeding to death. On inspection their upper bodies were missing.

I recently shot an arrow that went through:
Both lungs
Heart
Both eyes
Both ears
Brain
Throat

The elf died.

I had a kobold with a good explanation from Fortress Mode. If I remember it right...

Right eye gone
Left eye gone
Neck broken
Nose broken
Throat torn out

The kobold was fleeing. I rationalized it as such: He turned to get a look at the bolt and it hit him laterally through both eyes, with the force of the flange/head catching on his nose bridge and skull (kobolds have small skulls) enough to shatter them both. The momentum transfer was such that the head was spun around by the blow, causing the neck to spin far enough to break, while tearing the throat in half by the twisting action.

I have one... Although it's not from any projectiles, it sure was lucky. I was fighting HFS in an old fortress on my legendary adventurer. However I have replaced the HFS with humans to avoid spoilers. It was epic, and I was laughing for a few minutes at it.

You hack at the Guard's head with your adamantine shortsword!
The head flies off in a bloody arc!
The Guard has been struck down.
The Farmer misses you!
You counterstrike!
You hack at the The Farmer's head with your adamantine shortsword!
The head flies off in a bloody arc!
The Farmer is struck down.
The Child misses you!
You counterstrike!

Now, an arrow could have done all that in one hit.

I once smacked a child across a room, and upon impact he asploded and covered the entire room with little chunks. Strange how most of those blows are to the head. I think my adventurers are playing golf with humans.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.
