Heh, Im not a dictator Im just looking at things from RIAA's shoes. They just dont want to look like wimps. If people saw her win a suit against them, they might get the idea they can too. Also she was being pretty cocky thinking she could take on a whole company, nay a whole group of companys in court. She should have known her place and just payed their original fine.

Well of course they gave her the option of settling out of court first time around. But she thought she could challenge them. Of course she was in no position to do that so they made sure she either payed what she owed, or be utterly destroyed.

Of course their not going to charge her 1.9 million, their going to offer to settle out of court again. So in a way they could charge her any number between $1 to 1.9 mil, she could have gotten off easy if she dident go to court. Im sure the judge knew this from the start. The 1.9 mil was just a way to teach her not to fuck with the RIAA.

Downloading songs isn't much different the other forms of copyright infringement (forging a painting for example, or duplicating text from a book and using it in your own book. Hell, patent infringement fines for big cases usually run into the hundred millions, and that's only 2 orders of magnitudes up from coppying 24 songs. I sense an oddity)

Then he should certainly be against a court interfering with business, and saying a person owes a company all the money they will ever make ever for effectively stealing one CD.
