Nightmares are a good way to become lucid.  Every time I have a nightmare it eventually reaches a point where for some reason I can only see black.  Maybe my eyes are closed, maybe I'm in a dark room, it varies.  I immediately become aware I'm dreaming, and before I can stop myself, I force my real eyes open and wake up.  It sucks.

Also, I'm pretty sure the jerking awake thing is when your muscles relax and your body thinks it's falling.  Kind of like when you lean too far back in a chair and suddenly jerk.

One problem with Lucid Dreaming while having nightmares is that statistically it is a good way to make things worse. (60%!)

True.
You just might end up controlling too much, where it gets out of hand.

Hee hee hee.  Out of hand.

"George!  Prepare the cow honey so I can crawl into my elementary school teacher's nose so I can stop her from destroying the best pizza parlor ever!"

"But main character, I AM YOUR FATHER."

"NOOO!!!!!!  This cannot be!"

"I AM ALSO YOUR ELEMENTARY TEACHER."

"But....my elementary teacher was a female!"

I had an LD last night!

It started off with myself being in a car at the driving entrance to my former high school. Suddenly the lights from nearby buildings shutoff and a nearby guy who looked like he was praying collapsed. Then lightning flashed and the light from it faded only slowly so I could see for awhile. Then the guy got up and started walking toward me all possessed-like. That's when I realized I was dreaming for no apparent reason. (note: all my Ld's so far have involved me fighting) So as he walked up to me, I Falcon Punched him and he went flying. Then lightning bolted toward me and I caught it and turned it into a kamehameha blast and shortly after that I woke up or at least had a false awakening.

I think the reason I realized I was dreaming was due to me going to bed at 1:45 am and trying to Wake-Induce. The farthest I got was the wackiest and most vivid Hypagnoic(sp) imagery I had ever seen before I decided to just try and fall asleep.

LD no. 3!

Good advice:

I was near my cabin in dream world when I saw a bear, DO NOT RUN INTO YOUR CABIN AND LOCK THE DOOR.  Bears seem to have the ability to crash them down and eat you horribly.   :-X

Next time extend your hand with the intent of causing a spike to shoot from the ground and impale the bear.

I had a dream last night. I had an argument with a zombie.
The zombie screamed at me about something to do with Mexican food. I became all dizzy and fell over and 'woke up' elsewhere. I rub my face with my 7-fingered webbed hand. I then notice I'm in a lucid dream.
The zombie shows up with a taco in one hand and a door in the other. I tap my heels and a panel from the solid cement ceiling falls and crushes the zombie.
That's when my arm turns into Alex Mercer, whose own arm turns into the whipfist and destroys the panel.

I had a lucid zombie dream. At first it was just a horrifying nightmare where a zombie hive mind attacked the town I live in and while I was running away, I got stuck in a cluster of trees and got infected. I slowly could feel my skin rot in some places and form pussy blisters in other places. Eventually, the hive mind started sending me weak commands, and then it overpowered me and, since I was stuck and could not assist the goal but was still taking resources up to control me, the hive mind commanded me to eat myself. When I realised that eating part of myself would reduce my size enough that I could escape, I started being able to control everything. I had fun infecting everyone through headbiting  ;D.

Lucid dreaming can be awesome. Although I never managed to train myself to reliably get them, I sometimes get some randomly between other weird dreams (I dream alot, though most I only remember as 'something very, VERY weird.'). My clearest and favorite up till now where:

-One when I was just sitting in my classroom and suddenly realised it was a dream and started looking at stuff and blowing them up. Sadly, I woke up before I could continue my path of destruction through the rest of the city.

-One were I jumped around my city not affected by gravity, walking on walls, pushing myself from one wall to another, flying upside down and such, while people looked and gasped

Most others involve flying. Its the first thing I try to do in any lucid dream were I'm in an non-enclosed space: fly away. If I'm in an enclosed space, I try to blow up stuff, though most of the times I wake up instantly other than that one time I mentioned above.

Helpful Advice #2:

DON'T ask someone if you're dreaming, when you are dreaming.  Their skin will turn green and they will try to eat/kill you.

Not only is it not actually advertising anything, it's just copy/pasting word salads about gold, runescape, oil, yuan, and handbags.  It's like a transporter accident combined all the spambots into one shambling mass of online sales.
