Sounds like sleep paralasis. Most people tend to associate those dreams with aliens, and UFO-ologists (the guys that genuinely try to find the truth behind UFOs) actually have a question on their questionare that pretty much describes your dream, minus the whole waking up over and over bit.

Looked up a bit about sleep paralysis, and that does sound possible.  It has always seemed odd to me that when I do finally wake up for good, I am in the same position I dreamed and am often aware of things that have happened in the room while I was asleep.  Still doesn't stop the nightmares/hallucinations/whatever they are, though.  At least this doesn't happen too often anymore.

Lucid dreaming eh... It's cool to have someone next to you when you're dreaming and tell him from your dream that you're in a dream now.

I didn't have a lucid dream last night, but I had a dream.  It was a very long one, and I only remember the last ten minutes or so of it.  One strange thing was that Azathoth was the final boss in Assassin's Creed.  He just looked like a huge sphere of mercury.  You couldn't kill him of course, you just had to survive until he got bored and went back to the center of the universe.

The real fun started later.  I was some kind of soldier in the apocalypse, and I had the shotgun I got in Borderlands.  There were all these zombie-esque mutants coming out of this warehouse, and my fellow soldiers and I were pushing them back.  I was laying down the law, dropped mutant after mutant, and eventually we were at the entrance of the warehouse and about to continue inside.  The flow of monsters was constant, so we never got a break from the action.  Eventually this thing got right up in my face.  I jumped like 50 feet through the air and landed in an alley to get away, but the thing kind of split open like a popped balloon and its skin (It was all skin, just hollow inside) flew after me.  When I landed it came back together and grabbed me around the throat.  Some more of them showed up and I knew it was over.  The one lifted me way up into the air by my neck, and started strangling me.  I looked forward and outside the alley was the President (Not Obama, some old white guy, but I knew he was the President because of that weird dream cognition you get) and Vester!  Vester looked exactly like her avatar, it was weird.  Anyway, I'm being strangled, they just look at me and keep walking.  I flip them off and yell something, I don't remember what, and then I'm suddenly in the kitchen of my grandmother's house with one of my IRL friends.  I'm telling him about how the President is a douchebag for not saving me, and how he's letting Colorado (The mutant outbreak was in Colorado) go all to hell.

Frankly Cthulhu I'm jealous, things in my non lucid dreams will never make half as much sense as yours...

Your dreams are haphazardly ordered, as when I close my eyes and its like braking the veil twixt here and chaos, crazy confusing is to bland for it.

Half people abominations, swirly flurried currented events, and flaming improbable insanities are the only regularity to them, that and the actual me not being in any of them.

I was reading up on this sleep paralysis thing and kept seeing mentioned that it's strongly linked to narcolepsy, so I had a read through some info on that as well.  I always thought of it the way you see it in movies and such - someone just suddenly falls asleep in the middle of eating soup or something, but apparently it's not like that.  The way it's described in Wikipedia is more subtle; you get sudden muscle weakness for no reason, you get suddenly and inexplicably so tired that you can't function and need to sleep, you get lots of "head bobs" where you drop off for half a second, and of course the sleep paralysis thing.  In addition there's the counterintuitive effect of insomnia since your sleep patterns are all screwed up.  (The article also mentions that doctors figure 75% of narcoleptics are undiagnosed because it's mistaken for laziness or depression or something else.)

I've had insomnia since I was five, inexplicable lethargy (to the point where I often need to find the nearest place I can safely sleep and just pass out for anywhere from several minutes to several hours without any hope of waking) and random crippling muscle weakness for as long as I can remember, this sleep paralysis stuff for many years, and I head bob all the time on public transportation, in classes, at work (depending on my job)...  Of course, all of this could be coincidence, but there's one other thing listed that really got me considering this as a possibility: narcoleptics enter REM sleep immediately rather than 30 minutes in.  I always dream, always, even if I'm only asleep for five seconds.  I always thought of it as just something cool - ha ha, I can dream more than you can, that sort of thing.  I almost always remember my dreams, am in the middle of a dream when I wake up, and lucid dream several times a week at least (just woke up from one in fact).

I'm wondering if it would be worth seeing a doctor and getting myself a diagnosis.  Apparently this involves lots of trips to sleep labs and such, but there is medication they can give you and some of it sounds fun (codeine, amphetamines...).  On the other hand, I have no health insurance and surely sleep labs are expensive, and anyway I've lived like this my whole life and aside from my parents yelling at me for being lazy as a kid, it's never really been a problem.  And I like dreaming all the time.

Narcolepsy, hum, how odd...

Dreamings good...and if it dont get in the way its all fine...

Just avoid sleep addiction, hallucinations, melancholy, and chronic non-REM sleep and you'll be fine...

...ah, memories...

I just had the weirdest sleep thing ever.  I was so confused.

First I was dreaming.  In the dream I woke up and stayed in bed, trying to get back to sleep.  I had one of those half-dreams where it's like a dream is playing out, but you can still feel your bed.  I got kind of confused at this point, though, because I couldn't feel my bed.  It was like I was in the dream.  Then I woke up from that dream, and my dad was talking to me.  I pretended to be asleep and he eventually got bored and left.  I started to WILD, and flew around the room for a minute before landing on my bed.  I got up, checked my hands, and they looked normal, so I was kind of disappointed and got up to get dressed and stuff.  I was really dizzy and lethargic though, and could barely stand up.  After a few minutes of this I woke up again, checked my hands, and realized that everything before that was a dream.  It was trippy.

Sounds recursive, and confusing...

Also you reminded me of most recently getting up to get dressed and slipping into moving sleep and going from putting my clothes on to being eaten whole, and falling deep into chaos while still trying to put clothes on...

Recently, I've been having a sort of "dynamic dream." This would happen in two ways:
1. I'm half awake, I know I'm awake, but I shout at whatever my dream decides to conjure up until someone wakes me up.
2. I'm asleep, and my body just has to get into the motions of my dream, meaning I'm probably convulsing or punching into the air. I normally wake in an odd position after a dream like this.

Personally, I like this kind of dream. It makes everyone think I have a mental illness

I recommend this site. It has a very friendly community with lots of interesting discussions regarding Lucid Dreaming going on, and some things to help you out if you're looking to get more lucid dreams or better control.

I have the occasional Lucid dream, usually when I remember to turn off the computer before falling asleep (not very often).
Most of mine seem to end after I notice something odd, like the face of someone I know quite well is completely blurred out, or something had a label that is written in an unreadable language, then I get the feeling of falling forwards indefinitely and wake up feeling like I just fell of a cliff, prompting all sorts of quick memory checks that usually make me forget the dream.

The first Lucid dream I can remember was probably walking along a beach with my family, then they disappeared and suddenly boats pulled up at the beach. Then snails started to appear on the boats, and skeletons started to pull themselves out of the sand. I believe I then pissed myself and woke up, skeletons being somewhat terrifying at the age of 6. :-[

The other possibility might be the Toy Store one. I'm nine, walking through a toy store that is completely unrecognisable, but filled with awesomely cool toys. Then my dad says to me 'you can have any one you want for your birthday.' so I run and started looking at them and playing with them, trying to decide which one to choose.
After a red cube which changes into a jeep, an airplane and an animated grizzly bear lost my interest I looked up to find the legs of a store clerk in front of me. I look up and his face is completely blurred. Somewhat startled I turn to look at my parents and find their faces are similarly distorted.
After waking up I quickly rushed to the bathroom to look in the mirror, then went around the house checking everyone's faces were normal. It actually really creeped me out.

Since then I actively try not to have lucid dreams, as they usually come out with bizarre horror twist endings.
Hence why I always leave my computer running / playing music. So yes, I am scared of my own subconscious. (S)He's a heartless bastard.

Waking up from a lucid dream feels weird.  Usually it's completely seamless, I'm in the dream then I'm in my bed with no transition.  This one time, though, I could feel my real body while I was in the dream.  It was crazy.

I had another lucid dream!  This was another WILD.

I had just woken up from a pretty boring dream, and I didn't feel like getting up.  After a while I had this sudden clarity of mind that I can't really describe, and there was this block of text in front of me.  Two of the sentences were highlighted, but I don't remember what they say.  The word "market" comes to mind.  I focused on the top highlighted sentence, and felt like I was shifting around, then the rushing wind and feeling of flying started up.  I waited it out and eventually felt the movement stop, and I fell a few feet, landing on my bed and falling off.  A dog (Probably a collie or sheltie, it had really long hair) ran up to me and started trying to play.  I pushed it off and started rubbing my hands on the carpet, which was almost absurdly detailed.  That's what I like about morning LDs, you have super HDR vision.

Anyway, I petted the dog for a little bit, using the tactile stimulation to strengthen the dream (For some reason LDs go all Silent Hill on you until you rub your hands on the ground) and things became even clearer.  The lights were off and the switch didn't work.  I went into the living room and heard someone rummaging through the fridge.  I decided to see if I had any powers, so I raised my hands and shouted "HOUSE EXPLODE".

Nothing happened.  Disappointed, I tried "LIGHT INCREASE" and walked back to my room.  Sure enough, as I said it the ambient light in the house increased, and when I went into my room the overhead light was on.  My bed had moved to where my computer is normally situated, and the dog was gone.  In its place was this little boy in swimming trunks.  He sucked, so I tried to transform him into something cool, like a giant robot or Kharn the Betrayer.  Nothing worked, so I just picked him up and threw him out the window.  It was ground floor, don't worry.  I started looking for something to do and heard the kid crying.  I looked out the window and he had apparently skinned his knee.

I said "Shut up, there's ointment in the living room, jeez" and continued to try to find something to do.  I looked out the window and I was apparently in some kind of alpine town.  There were pine trees all around and it was a little snowy.  The house may have been on a rocky hill, I'm not sure.  I wasn't out in the middle of nowhere though, there were roads and stuff, and maybe a house or two.  I pointed at a tree and tried to zap it with my mind but nothing happened.  I wondered where my computer was, and turned to see if it was where my bed is in the real world.  For a second I could feel my eyelids over my eyes, even though I could see and then I was in my bed, awake.

Boring.

Sometimes I do.  A long time ago I was freezing stuff, boiling water, throwing trucks with my mind, all kinds of stuff.  I just need to figure out how to do it properly.
