40d - Bug with "Catch Live Fish"
« on: June 19, 2009, 03:51:58 pm »

I converted 5 glass terraniums to aquariums, and they've been filled.

I got animal traps produced, and they were moved to the animal stockpile.

I put 5 orders for 'catch live fish' in the fishery.

The dwarf who took the job went to the animal stockpile, hauled one of the traps, and stayed there.

After a long while, he needed to eat, stopped the job and then started it again after.

Apparently he's waiting for a fish to come in or something, - however he's far away from the brook and the artifical lake I created - after a long while - he hasn't gotten anything yet.

Make sure you have all announcements turned on, and check your error log.  There might be some kind of cancellation spam that could give some clues as to the nature of the bug.

Possible related bugs:
# 000400 □ [dwarf mode][buildings]   animal traps have trouble with ocean fish and sometimes catch from other areas
# 000405 □ [dwarf mode][creatures]   stronger pool vs. river vs. lake vs. ocean checks needed for large fish, fishing, vermin generation

Turned announcments on - nothing, no spam, and he's continuing the task, the task remains active until he pops off to do something or other.

Did you also check errorlog.txt in your DF folder?

A bit of a bump, but I suspect the problem is that you didn't define a Fishing activity zone.

Personally, I think it's odd that "Capture Live Fish" requires an activity zone even when Fishing normally doesn't.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.
