The wiki is your friend. You should hit some key word and surf around from there.  Here, "slope" would have answered your question faster than we could have.

<d>, <z>.  "d" does 90% of the "digging/removing" type designations, the main exception being when you want to tear down a building, it's <q>, <x>.

Just a tip, never mix the three:

- Construction: Wall, stair, fortification etc. (All things in b>C menu)
- Designation: Dig, channel, remove ramp (All things in d menu)
Building: Workshops, farm plots etc (All things in b menu usually)

So, to get rid of constructions, it's d>n then select it. For designations, x usually does the trick, or for ramps, d>z. For buildings, q>x

To  be fair, there are two commands for removing ramps: one for constructions (d-n) and one for natural ramps (d-z).

Sure, the wiki is your friend (as is simply looking around the command lists) but the fact that you suggest that he know to search for "slope" when trying to get rid of ramps certainly doesn't help the situation - in fact, it indicates why the wiki isn't as great as it could be.

The fact that FtR used the word "ramp" when clearly looking to remove "slopes" has nothing to do with the wiki, and everything to do with the user.

The fact that you are explaining how to remove "ramps" when the OP is clearly talking about slopes implies something as well.

Totally off-topic, but what does OP mean? I understand it's like first poster but I don't know what the actual words are.

Be aware that they can still shoot up Z-levels so if you plan on having exposed civilians wandering your 'safe' outside areas during an ambush or siege you should put walls up as well as remove the ramps.

It's not like they only appear as ramps in designations and creations.

No, it's exactly like that.

They only appear as "ramps" when constructed, and only as "slopes" when natural.

And it's not arrogance to expect some basic level of factual precision when answering questions. Not in my not-so-humble opinion, anyway.  ;)

I went to the wiki and searched "ramp". The page has an index on the top, bullet four is on removal of natural ramps and five covers constructed.

The key commands are d->z, then use enter to remove them just like you select squares to be mined. As a side note, get familiar with ramps - the way they work is incredible for hollowing out multiple z-levels. http://www.dwarffortresswiki.net will have most of the answers you want about these things, plus contains much less flamage.

For the record, I said "ramps" because the wiki links both slope and ramp to the same page, and I thought the terms were interchangeable. Plus, while the wiki gives pretty straight answers most of the time, occasionally it does fail to explain things in a straightforward manner (which is why I asked this in the first place; laugh all you like, I was just looking for some clarification).
