A 1/7 water will freeze into a solid block of ice and then thaw into a 7/7 water afterwards.

I must find some way to exploit this fact.

This isn't entirely correct. 1/7 water will freeze into a muddy ice floor. 2/7 and above will freeze into a solid wall. This can be used and abused to create infinite water on an ice map without it, and it can be used to make ice castles with bucket brigades.

Anyways, I recommend that in your magma cisterns, you have another layer of magma beneath what you intend to pump. That way, you won't suffer any magma loss due to lavaporation.

I recomend you build a pressure plate set to trigger on 4/7 water for pump stopping, making sure the plate isn't exposed to air.

with the water system settled at 2/7 to 4/7, make invaders wade it, and drop the magma down a level with bridges to ensure the water can now freeze.

wait for the cycle to single-handedly kill the goblins.

something should trigger or cycle during the freeze to pump the magma a moment later.

trap is reset, and ready to drain again.
