Mage Guild

I found this roguelike game awhile ago-I recommend it!

The premise is your a trainee mage sent down into the depths of the dungeon-if you should pass all the levels, you'll become a master etc. etc.

Interesting things:

Non-standard level system, you don't go experience or stats in this game btw...to gain levels and learn new spells you have to find and orb of knowledge on every level, then find the exit.

Indeed, you'll have to fight alot (hordes of monsters surround the orb), but it gains you very little benefit. It is very hard to replace hit points in the start of the game, so being a weakling wizzard you are, you'll have to use your head and intelligently use spells and spell points.

As for offense, you've got your basic staff shot, which doesn't do much damage but can be charged up for a big blast. There's 5 spell schools, and 4 spells in each. In the beginning you choose 2 schools, along with a skill and your dungeon master, essentially.

To top it all off, its got an interesting alchemy system-you can combine potions with other potions, items or monster parts to produce a wide variety of different effects.

Here's a few of the ones I found, please share yours

Hm!  Roguelikes are often great 'thinky' games, so a roguelike with no XP from killing monsters is very welcome.

So, first time through, first impressions.

The message system needs some work. It seems to mirror itself, and I don't see the most recent message until I get a new one. This is bad, especially when I want to know right away what I just picked up.

Loving the "No XP for monster kills" system. Lots of fun. Also digging the character creation.

I didn't bother with the tutorial, so I missed some explanations, I think. Really like the "I charge my staff and it shoots my raw power out" thing. Very neat concept.

I'll be keeping an eye on this.  ;D

Has anyone figured out how long resistances last?

Also, starting with luxas as a mentor gives you a mirror which can be useful to new folks.

Combine a potion of death/life with a mirror and you get a dark/bright mirror. Not quite sure of the effects of this yet, but when I used the dark mirror on a gargoyle, I undeadified it (it healed from a death potion, and when I threw a life potion at a subsequent gargoyle expecting it to die it was healed, so i assume the first was undeadified)

I just played this.
I died when I used a potion of Naiad transformation on a crystal ball and then attaching that to my staff and firing at a wolf. D:

This sounds kind of more like Zork, in terms of "the discovery IS the adventure".  What does that thing do?  I MUST TRY IT!  Oh, THAT'S what it does.  New character...

But it also sounds like games are short, so death is not so bad :)
