You needed to make the squad(s) chase opponents and harass dangerous animals.

Wasn't it fun to lose that fort?

if you want a simple way to get graphics you can just install the mike mayday graphics package.
Also yeah soldiers wont chase dangerous animals by default but they should engage them if they are very close and getting attacked. Even a wrestler should be able to kill an olmman really.

Graphics: The mayday graphics package is the easiest way to get a complete revamp of the graphics that is much more pleasing on the eyes.  http://mayday.w.staszic.waw.pl/df.php

Military: As stated above, the dwarves will not harass wild animals etc with the default settings.  However, one thing to keep in mind is that the dwarves have really poor judgement, so be aware of the places your dwarves may chase the enemies, as losing half a squad of champions because they chased a fire imp into the magma pipe is too much fun.

Just try it! Its not like you die IRL if Urist McMiner falls into magma.

I tried the Mayday graphics but that would mean i have to restart my newest fort and it was going so well to. Is there some way i could move my fort into the graphics updated version?

I still say you should give ASCII a longer chance.

well, i suppose it's not that difficult to decifer (i just have to keep looking a lot), and i do already have a fort going... I guess i'll leave it for a while.

On an unrelated note, i just realized i have a pool of water that looks vaguley like Texas.

I don't know how to take pictures or post them. and the Texas image is only from memory, so i'm not sure if it actually looks like Texas (no offence to any texans here).

Spoiler: "Printscreen key." (click to show/hide)
Then open up paint and paste in the image. Crop said image as needed, to hide the wallpaper behind it and to make it smaller. (save image to somewhere you'll remember it... like the desktop or my pictures)

Then, go to an image hosting website and upload the screenshot.

Use the direct link, and when you post, put that link in like this.

(but without the spaces.)

It's lucky! You got a four leaf clover pond. :D

Yeah, I can see how it looks sorta like Texas.

If you can read, the wiki can help you. (Some people apparently can't, that's why I mention it.) ;)
