Well I don't know exactly how to do it, but I would assume it would be like a SHOUTCAST radio station, but only on for the alloted time.
You could also use the UStream.TV to host the streaming version of the podcasts too. Although you'd either have to have a blank screen or put some filler in to make sure people know there's not video. (although people just usually webcam themselves while they do these things anyway)

That was very entertaining. Thanks to Langiwhatever and Toady for taking the time to put this together.

I really hope you do more of these, Toady. Maybe you could do a solo podcast at some point? I really enjoy your interviews, and I'm sure I'm not alone in this.

I tried a little 5 minute solo thing a year or so ago as a joke.  I think I end up droning.  My only problem with setting something up more official was originally (years ago) that I thought it would be a time sink and a distraction that people weren't interested in, but now, there's probably enough people to justify it, and as long as it isn't all the time, it wouldn't be a hassle.  Now my only problem is that some number of people have expressed interest in being involved in an official capacity, and they basically wanted to do the same thing, and I don't really want to play favorites.  I haven't decided if I want to start a thread on this or whatever, since I'm not really sure what the thread would say.

I had an idea, that people could sign up for a "Conversation With Toady One" - two or three people a time promise to have some questions prepared, and they get on Skype or something for an hour (crossed fingers for no drops).  Names would be drawn from a hat for fairness.

That Skype part make me think that people could ask Toady questions prior to the interview and near the end would be a questioning period where they would say things like:

"Toocootfouryou asks: Goblins are cool but they are really weak! How are they expected to put up a fight?"

but then I thought: Toady already answeres people's questions on the Future of the Fort and very few arn't responded to.

So it may just be padding

I haven't decided if I want to start a thread on this or whatever, since I'm not really sure what the thread would say.
I suggest starting the thread, and clearly stating the situation in the first post. Then we can brainstorm some ideas, and see whether there are enough people to actually make them true.

Regarding the two main issues you mentioned:

1. Favourites. I think there's no need to choose one person. If there are several people who'd like to contribute, it's an asset rather than a problem. You could either revolve the host (as mentioned above), or you could split the podcast into sections ("DF Development", "DF newbie help", "DF history", "Podcast DF succession game", etc.) and give each person their own section.

2. Time requirement. I think it would be best to have you in a position where you can contribute when you like, but don't have to when you don't (or when other things, like coding, have higher priority). Having different sections in the podcast helps here as well since it will be your decision whether a given podcast will have a "DF development" section and if yes, how big it will be. Having other sections as well also takes the pressure away from you to contribute a lot to every single podcast.

Yeah, as far as I can tell, they aren't suffering at all.  They just don't have any back legs, and they can still move around, but they are on their bellies.

That's not a bug, thats a feature!

Small rodents and such (rats, squirrels, quinna pigs) sometimes miss body parts in real life, they're usually chewed of by the mother shortly after birth, even so these creatures manage just fine most of the time. a horse without back legs pulling a cart is something else though...

I enjoyed the interview, even if I was only half-listening to it.  I was working on Dyechamber while it was going on, so I probably missed some of nuances of the conversation.

One question Toady One. When you mentioned about making the army managing more micromanage friendly in the new version, i was wondering about sparring part of it. In the new version will you be able to tell them to use training weapons, like say wooden weapons, when they spar so they won't accidentally kill each other?

Toady is redesigning the military, you will be able to assign any specific weapon to any dwarf.

I think having one of the community just present some questions on the future updates on the game and stuff like that may actually be worth thinking about. It saves you from having to offload it to third parties who don't necessarily have listeners actively interested in the game, BUT, on the other hand, that fact alone does act as an advertizement, and Toady, that kind of free advertizement is pretty desirable. If you could do the community based thing, and like, convince TIGSource or some other blogs post them up, that would be just as good, I think

I think the "interview"/talk was excellent, so thanks for doing it both of you. I also found Madman great; was just waiting for him to saw off his arm or drinking heavily and babbling.

I am enjoying the podcast too but the length is monstrous.  It is still very good, and since I'm interested in what Tarn has to say about DF (and especially it's future plans) I am not bored at all.

But it would be nice to have this sectioned off in 1/2 hour chunks over the course of a month or two.  I've downloaded the mp3 and have to bookmark my way through it since I can only listen to 45-60 min of it at any given time before moving on to other things.
