What are you looking forward to most?
« on: June 14, 2009, 06:37:54 pm »

More specifically, what, in the future of Dwarf Fortress, are you looking forward to the most? Name the top 3!

For me, it's an obvious win:

1. Adventure Mode skills. (Making a home on the world map)
2. Adventure Mode Relationships (Spouse, Children, Etc)
3. Dwarf Mode County (Larger settlement outside the confines of the play area).

These are just the Arcs taken from Future of DF, but, I'd love to hear what you guys have your eyes set on!

Definitely laying siege to other Civs. It would be a great endgame mechanic.

1. Adventure Mode skills. (Making a home on the world map)
2. Upgraded dialogue, because if Toady does it as well as everything he has done so far it will beat the Turing test. and because eavesdropping on your dwarves talking whit each other or actually typing orders in adventure mode would be beyond quality. (this MUST be somewhere in the dev right?)

1- Adventure mode skills.

2- Post-worldgen civ and settlement changes.

3- Legend mode accessible while playing fortress or adventure mode.

Hah, I hadn't thought about it before but siring kids in adventure mode suddenly sounds awesome. 10,000 descendants of 'Biff' Shoebook the merciless, killer of 4 wolves and a skeletal hedgehog!

That aside, I'm actually looking forward to the more practical improvments, like re-stacking coins and bolts and improved hauling (edit: Oh god yes improved hauling. I'm sick of it taking weeks of in-game time to clean up the remains of 6 goblins because no-one thinks of so much as carrying both socks at the same time) and hopefully the idea that we could eventually get hundreds of small tools for things like engraving, butchering etc. Basically, the things I voted for in the eternal voting thingy!

1. Domestic Adventurer Skills.
2. Raiders and migrants coming from somewhere. (Instead out of thin air.)
3. Magic Arc.

In order of interest.

For me improving the fortress mode is far more important than the history or adventure aspects.

1) better hauling - like giving a bin to a hauler so he can gather all stuff he hauls in there and bring it somewhere else (would solve the goblin sock issue e.g.)
2) tools - tool requirements for most jobs, like a knife for the cook, bowyer, butcher etc. or hammers for your smith, those tools should serve as weak weapons in self-defence
3) better economy - create a container (purse) that can contain coins (and gems?) and is carried by everyone all the time
4) criminality - make some dwarfs have a tendency to become criminal and steal from the others (great synergy with purses...) so that the jail, hammer and fortress guard become useful.
5) rooms over z-levels - I tend to build my dining hall at least 3 z-levels high - why not use the space for value?

Each to his own, eh? I much prefer Adventure mode, and to back up this statement, I'v never got the populace prerequisets (Hate that word >=[ ) for economy-fortress.

1. More complex dwarven personalities and private lives.
2. Realistic diplomacy.
3. Large scale warfare.

I like how each new element will complement the others allowing for better "stories" to from.

Oh definetly, I love going through Legends, reading how wars started (As best as they are described...) till I realize it's the same reason every 5th story. :P

Personally I prefer the pseudo-realism of DF without magic. But anyway.

Anything that makes Adventure mode more fleshed out is something I'm looking forward to, especially the use of skills and construction.

Second to that would be extending a Fortress' domain beyond the boundaries of the fortress.

Also can we list stuff in the next release? Because I can't wait for the hospitals or the new caves.
