I've had it for a year or so, and I recently decided to reinstall it.  Upon doing so, I made a startling discovery.  I can't find the CD-key.  It hasn't moved in months, and I installed it with a working CD key right before I put it where it is now, so I can't think of how the key could've been lost.  I'm thinking I must not be looking in the right place.

Could someone with the Battlechest tell me where their CD keys are located so I can see if mine have somehow turned to vapor?

where exactly have you looked?

although i do not have this particular game, it it sometimes located on:

A: a sticker within the game case

B: printed on the back of the manual (bottom)

C: on the back of the game-case (V rare)

D: on the back inside cover of the Manual

E: embossed in the game case



its also sometimes in the peripheral crap that comes with collectors edition. could have been on one of those.

The disks are in two black paper packets, neither of them have  CD keys on them and I can't find any sticker residue, so I'm not sure if they were on it and fell off or what.

There are two strategy guides, I didn't see the keys anywhere on them.  Same with the manuals.

There's a Blizzard product guide with nothing, and a tech-tree with nothing.  This is really confusing me.  If the keys were on a sticker that fell off, how did they escape the box?

Mines is on the back of the crystal CD case.

Its only on the original Cd's case and mine is the plastic one and its on the front and another with it on the back.

I ran into a similar problem. A friend "borrowed" my copy and never returned it. Lucky for me, I no longer keep CDs in their boxes. He probably decided the box was useless without the game so he threw it away. Bye bye, key!

Mine comes on a little tag on the back of the CD case.

So you got them with sleeves ay? Unlucky. O(

You could try pirating it; IIRC you purchase the right to a single installed copy and a single back up copy, so you wouldn't (technically) be breaking the law. Alternatively see if you can find a keygen around on the internet. Third option is to phone up the company and whine untill they give in.

I lost my Starcraft cd cases (with keys) years ago. I can't play online anymore, but when reinstalling I can usually "guess" a single-player key within 10 tries by bashing my keyboard randomly.

I miss CD-keys as a primary form of copy protection.

Edit - Hey, I found the Broodwar case I took from a friend years ago (It's empty; I needed the spare case at the time, and he was throwing it out). It was from the battlechest, and there is no CD-key anywhere on it.

At the price it costs these days it would be cheaper to get a new one

Meh he has already bought the game, I would say just find a key gen but if he wants to play online I'd say phone blizzard.

I've got stickers with cd-key on cd case for both Starcraft and Warcraft battlechest. Not much chance of finding said stickers if they decided to they are nowhere to be found inside the box.

As an alternative to keygen/calling Blizzard, you could ask for someone else Cd-key... anyone not playing online (or at all). I'm sure there's plenty of unused cd-key around

I used a keygen and quickly remembered why I uninstalled Starcraft in the first place.
