Welcome Workerdrone and Emperor.

Urist eventually ended up wandering the streets of Fortress; Voice (who was apparently important enough to get a proper noun) chattering in his ear. He couldn’t really find a job anywhere (the crafters rejected him, and the land-workers were out of jobs) except those that had long commitments. He managed to get a one year job herding sheep in the hills outside the city. The quarters were horrible (he slept with the sheep most of the time), but at least he got some money and a tent out of the deal. He became somewhat attached to his flock of one hundred sheep. He was given the offer of continuing his job, but he wasn’t sure that he wanted it.
Inaluct
Cemir was eventually assigned given a special position within department. Because he wasn’t a zefie, he would be given jobs largely as he decided. He wrote up his suggestions and handed them in to Iggy. Unsurprisingly, he was eventually assigned to one of the groups working on the horses. After a surprisingly long time spent working on the failed assumption that legless creatures could be traditional cavalry, Cemir helped design the war chariots (the cup holders were NOT his idea). At the start of the next year, Cemir was somewhat gratified to be informed that there would be a major effort to get mountain goats to fulfill the traditional cavalry role. He was in charge of a subset of research team four. Team four and five would be on the project. Cemir also managed to find a guide to zefie armor in the library, but he hadn’t had a chance to read it. A lot of his salary ended up going to clothes and a bed (both ended up being custom made, zefies didn’t really need clothes, apparently). The cake was good though.
Barbarossa
Even after a hard year of campaigning, his comrades in parliament never passed his healthcare resolution. They did have a point though, zefies didn’t really get sick much. He was very close to getting a bill passed anyway before the sitting broke down into the normal election month jitters (parliamentary elections occur every year). It wasn’t helped by the fact that many of the guildmasters (who totaled 8 votes) didn’t stay to listen to his speeches. He won his election, but his constituents (the upper section of the central city) weren’t overwhelmingly supportive.
Convenient map of political scene in Fortress
Each area is known as a district. The districts in the central wall elect three parliament members each. The outer ones get two each. The area within the walls also get one overall vote. The following people also get a vote each:
Leader of the zefies (Alastair)
Leader of the military (Alastair)
Construction/Engineer Guild head (Tikhon)
Research and Development Department (A)
Farmers Guildmaster
Land workers guildmaster
Head Crafter (The performer formerly known as Bea)
Nuke
Buer ended up getting a semi-regular job with the Engineers. He didn’t know all that much about building, but he was a pretty good help with keeping stuff organized. A fair bit of his decent salary went to some much needed house maintenance. Before long though, he ran out of stuff to organize (after cleverly developing a system that mostly kept itself). Near the end of the year though, someone realized that the stocks in the newly expanded granary had been pretty poorly kept. With the extra space (it had actually been doubled), someone would have to keep it organized. Head Engineer Tikhon had recommended him for the job to the Farmers guild (who maintained control of it). Buer hadn’t gotten a response about it though, although Azan predicted that there would probably still be work with the stoners (as he referred to his guild) even if Buer didn’t get the position.
Emperor
Emperor the zefie looked around the northern market place at the opportunity sign. He was probably going to need food soon.
WorkerDrone
Glaring at a few puffballs who gave his attire strange stares, Olon went back to examining the job openings. What could Fortress have to offer?
