Duplicated artifacts on site
« on: June 14, 2009, 11:11:14 am »

I know full well of artifacts duplicating (one in inventory, one on site) when retrieved in Adventure mode, but it seems that if your adventurer retrieves an artifact and is slain in that fortress (say, trying to clear out the orcs for a safer reclaim), the artifact is dropped where he died.  In reclaim I now have two legendary swords in my armory.  It's only a matter of time when I find out if both are equippable.

Awesome. If I ever lose my fort, I'm going to bring a handful of adventurers to my fort and make ☼Uranium War Hammers☼ for my entire reclaim party.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

Hmm, problem seems to have resolved itself...

At start, the copy sat beside an adventurer's corpse and the original in a bin at the former weapons stockpile.  A little after reclaim, the copy sword was moved to the weapons stockpile and set on the ground beside the bin.  After several months, the fortress inventory was all safely stowed and my first swordsdwarves were reaching master, I checked again and there was only one artifact sword, located in the original location in the bin.

My guess is that at some point, the copy was put in the bin with the original and simply ceased to exist.  Unfortunately, I didn't savescum, so I can't go back and experiment with this odd phenomenum any more.  Perhaps tailoring the weapons stockpiles (setting max bin to zero) or forbidding both weapons until they're ready to be wielded might work?

Oh well, I shouldn't cheat.

An interesting note is that the sword is covered with the blood smears of everything every adventurer who ever wielded that sword killed.
