Mafia Ideas discussion thread

I've had a few ideas for mafias and I want to get opinions of others as to how good they are, and I thought that other people might too so I have started this thread.

My ideas:

Aftermath Mafia: Survivors of a battle take shelter in a shelled village. However there are enemies amongst you and you must root them out before you can rest.
Roles I've got:
Sniper: Has a night kill which ignores Surgeon protection. (Explanation DF style. The flying bullet strikes the Generic Soldier in the head! It explodes in gore!) (Original idea was to have him able to ignore all protections but that would make him too powerful)
Surgeon: Standard doctor role.
Engineer: Each night, he places explosives around himself. The first person to visit him is killed but after that he is vulnerable for the rest of the night.
Downed Pilot: He is looking for an engineer to help him repair his aircraft. Once per game he can choose one person to contact. If that person is an engineer the Pilot wins. If not, the pilot loses. Loses if he fails to find an engineer no matter what else happens.

Like are you looking for the background story ideas or are you looking for gameplay mechanic ideas?

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

I think there were others but I can't remember them right now.
All I can see hear is an idea for the theme...

Think about Mechanics...

1) What roles do you want to have?
2) How much of the roles are gonna be theme related? (There's gonna be third party survivor roles?)
3) How many players are you thinking of?
4) How many killing, protecting, investigating, blocking, etc roles?  Try to think what can happen
5) Do every party has a fair chance of winning?  (THIS IS CRUCIAL)

Check the mafiawiki and research roles.  Read about game balancing there too.

12 person game
1 mafia, 5 townies, 6 3rd parties.

It can be a cult-type thing. The Mafia guy is a cult-leader. Every other night, he makes a person join as a cultist. No night killing, just join as a cultist.

Since the mafia can't night-kill, I think townies having power-roles would be a bit silly.

3rd party roles can be the classics, like survivors or exterminators, or they can be strange, like Feeble-Minded Fool "Join the mafia to win" or the Emo "Win if you die". There's a lot of 3rd party roles, but it's to make up for the lack of power-roles and keep the game exciting.

Town wins if the mafia and all killers are gone. Mafia wins when every living player is in the mafia or they have a majority and there are no killers.

How about a role where every person that voted to lynch him gets killed, including the lynch victim.  Called a self-destruct human thing.


Huh?  Huh?  Good eh?



EDIT:  He loses if he makes it to the end, a third-party role ofcourse.



EDIT EDIT:  That means he tries to get lynched by as many people as possible for the biggest kill.   ::)

This is the most ridiculous variation of a jester I've ever heard of tooneyman... what's the point?  There are no points in mafia... So being lynched because of 2 is the same as being lynched because of 6 or more...

Hey would you guys be down for a Mafia IRC game of Gunfight? It's a sort of variant where you shoot at each other with (wait for it)... Guns.

It's fantastic. We should have a 16 player one. It isn't nearly as hard to set up IRC as it seems, either.
