We shall flee once all our men have the possibility to escape. If we don't, then we have a undead horde literally chasing our asses and zombies don't ever get tired.

It happens.  I would suggest having us wait on the side until the fallen reach us, while having the bowmen indirect fire away at that necromancer.  If we get a lucky shot, we'll have a much easier time of it down the road (or at least, that was the implication).

I have a 'game mechanics' question. Is this the kind of game where, when you finish the mission, how well you did doesn't affect any other missions in the future (like advance wars, or fire emblem, or most tactics games)? Or is this a bit more of an involved simulation, and we want to do as much roasting, toasting, and general kickassing as possible without dying before we leave?

Well, if previous battles affect future battles, then we really should leave. For your notice, we are fighting zombies that never tire. We are human, so we have to rest. Stick to the plan of shooting Fallen/Necromancers until we can all retreat.

he said something about other troops arriving. if battles are connected, by waiting a turn or 2 we could have them in the next battle.

Well being away for a while turned out to mean loosing my AD folder and not noticing it for some time. I am now re-creating the most recent map from scratch. Update tomorrow.

As for the questions:

The outcome of one mission affects the next ones. Units that die will stay dead(unless they are recovered and are lucky on their healthcare roll) and killing certain enemies will prevent you from meeting them later, or meeting them in a different form.

Hacking up corpses is possible and the viability depends on what you are trying to chop up. Breaking through a Reaver's chitin plates takes quite some time and they can still be used to create Fallen even when banged up pretty badly. There's a major difference between "joint jammed by an arrow shaft" and "beyond repair by undead duct tape"

I have some Fan Art commissioned for the Reavers so you can stop wondering what exactly they are, which will arrive as soon as the artist 1) has some spare time 2) finds a scanner.

Everybody bunches up along the edge ready to leg it the moment the order is given while our bowmen take another shot at downing the necromancer with volley fire, the first of which failed. The rest of the undead continued moving in our general direction.
