MTG RTD
« on: June 12, 2009, 06:57:30 am »

Yeah... A RTD based off of Magic the Gathering cards.

In this RTD you play the part of a generic individual with nothing but the clothes on his/her back and one card.In this world Magic cards are actually powerful relics that can be used to the effects described by their text.Unfortunately, not long after the cards were discovered they were abused by individuals like you, making for a rather perilous world.

To join, simply select from the three options below...
All cards are searched via The Gatherer

>Random magic card, just as it says on the tin.
>color/type filter,a random card search, but confined to search parameters chosen by you,you may choose a color(White/Blue/Black/Red/Green),a type(Artifact/Creature/Enchantment/Instant/Sorcery),or both a color and a type.
>Specific card, you may start with a card of your choice, but you may not pick a rare. Please try not to pick a card that exclusively has effects related to the library or graveyard(now irrelevant),if you uncertain, try choosing the card anyway and I'll tell you if it is acceptible.

More cards will appear in the game world, and may be aquired.

There are several rule effects in place for this RTD...

>Attempts at generically searching for a card in the game world will fail unless it lands on a 5,this is basically to prevent players from becoming too powerful too fast and reduces the need for me to basically 'materialize cards out of thin air'.
>using cards requires a sucessful roll in generic RTD fashion,Rolls will effect the outcome with bonuses or penalties.
>Each player automatically generates one mana of their first card's color, with a maximum standard mana pool of 20.(if you don't have a color for me to gen I'll likely give you a generic mana pool until you specify.Do specify though or I may start giving you penalties)
>You may only cast one spell per turn, with exceptions to instants/interrupts,which can be used each turn along with standard spells, once for each card.
>Sorceries, enchantments, and instants after use will become tapped,to untap you must pay the casting cost.
>creature and artifact cards whose bound entities are destroyed,as well as any other card which is directly destroyed, will crumble into dust, which is then put into a small bag, this bag is your graveyard.
>You may hold up to four cards in your hand at once, all extras must be put into your library.Which is a sort of hammerspace(no I'm not linking to TVTropes),getting cards out of the library is unreliable though.(like a real deck)

(Thanks to Sean Mirrsen for suggesting a mana system)
(Thanks to RAM for suggesting the Library, and inspiring the graveyard and tap system)

Explain, unless you mean a creature, basically creature cards bring forth a servant,if it dies, the card crumbles into dust.

Now,a poll, what setting should we start in? I can think of a classic dungeon, jungle, and urban.

I like dungeons. There's always lots of loot, and brutally slaughtering the treasure guardians doesn't conflict with my lawful personality.

Doesn't really matter to me, though a dungeon would be alright.

Note to self: never ask for a random card again.  Seriously, taunt?  Everyone else's cards are at least 10 times more useful.  I should have just asked for a counterspell, or something...

Yea, that is a rather bad spell, although it could potentially be useful if we come across monsters on the other side of a pit of magma/bottomless pit/trapped corridor. I vote that people who randomed be allowed to random a second time, and pick whichever of the cards they like more.

I'd like to take a spot on the waiting list. I'll take a random white creature (I was compelled to take Divine Light, since I like the character on that one, but it's the effect that matters here).

Since the rules are different here, care to explain how different cards will work?

Is there a difference between a sorcery and an instant/interrupt?
Would using a sorcery/instant/anything else use it up?
If not, can one enchantment be laid on more than one target (across several turns)?
What about mana cost? Do we play lands?
What abilities have effect? Does summoning sickness affect creatures (without haste, that is)?
How far are the rules bent? How much life does the player have, and is the damage done strictly according to the rules?
... enough with the questions for now.
