Small cave it is. Highlights:
Like 3 steps in, Okenido steps on an iron spike trap.
SmoooooothWe see a skeletal warrior. This one happens to be solitary, but even small groups can be very dangerous. On death, it dropped a skeleton, a sword, and a shield, all of which Emp grabbed.
We stumbled into a room of goblins, which are basic ranged attacker enemies. They all attacked Dwarmin (who was leading when we went in) and then Emp when he took the lead. After that, I just ordered everyone to go down so we could come back up to a less dangerous level. The levels in this game are non persistent. And then I left the dungeon.
We have 83 gold coins, and we found some tattered magical primers, a gnarled wand, a couple small chests, a gray robe, and some other stuff.
The gray robe gives a +1 magic score. Duke started with one. By the way, magic is also magic resistance.
In this game, wands reduce the cost of casting spells and grant some spells to their user. Duke started with a prentice wand, which grants Magelight, Featherfall, and Prestidigitation (distraction spell). The gnarled wand grants stinking cloud and reduces the cost of attack spells.
Reading a tattered magical primer gives a chance of some weird negative effect (like summoning monsters, or casting Stinking Cloud on the area) or of gaining a new spell. There are other books that have higher level spells in them. Books are one-use.
There's another warrior in the inn, but he's level 1 and wants 227 gold, so there's no way we're recruiting him without someone who has really high charm. That mage wants 83 gold, though, so we can recruit him. Should we?
