Yeah, I know... but they wouldn't survive the waterfall anyway (if they spawned to the east).

Strike the soggy earth, and may it serve you well. Let me know what you do with it!

I downloaded the thing... and it's kind of 'meh'. The river is almost empty with mostly 1-2 water levels.. there's even mud visible in some places. I punched through the aquifer to feed the bottom part some more water, so that's not that bad (I've got 2z level river now), but the upper part is still mostly mud...
I'll have to dam the upper part and use aquifer for the waterfall too to avoid the water pathing lag.

DF water is weird.

Oh, that's really a bummer. My river runs 7/7 the whole way. I wonder what makes the difference...

It's just what I've been looking for but unfortunately the seed wont work for me, care to tell me what version you genned this in? I would use the pregenerated world but I use a load of custom mods (nothing that should change the map itself) and I don't want to be without them.

OK. I now know why it drains so much. I embarked on a slightly larger area (5x5) and I have the river running from the lower right corner. It goes one tile north and the eastern wall is missing, so it acts as a drain. Second drain is right under the waterfall - the southern wall. Right after embark there's just unrevealed void in there until I put some dig designations in place.

First can't be fixed easily... I can't build anything in there, so I'm stuck with it. Second is easy to fix by forcing reveal on those walls with a dig designation.

This is how it looks:

I built something here. It's awesome 8)

I can now activate 2 bridges: 1 to walk across, and 1 to stop the water. It looks awesome.

EDIT: Bad thing, cat chases rat on ice, ice melts, cat drops 10 z-levels.

How, exactly, is that a bad thing?

Anyway. to Peterix, I think the first drain spot on the bottom right could be staunched with creative use of collapsing walls. You cant get right up to the edge, obviously, but you can stop backflow. It'd just be a pretty epic undertaking given the depth of the river.

Looks like the 47 wude river failing to be centerable on a 48 wide tile.  Looks like the only real solution is channeling magma along that edge segment via raised bridges.

And Ironhand managed to get me back to playing DF. Thanks, you bastard, you've ruined my productivity for the better part of two months.

Hooray!

Well, a lot of maps freeze, so it's not specific to this one.  It's just a lot more dramatic.

Sweet. I have accomplished something.

As for the second drain there, under the waterfall, that's the edge of an aquifer, I think.

Is there any chance you can put that in a zip file instead of RAR?

Same here. .rar files never seem to work for me.
