All right, I had more free time than I was expecting this weekend, so I played a bit after all.

January 14th, 2017
The Infected have left! I guess the sacrifice of those four refugees was enough to sate their appetites. Bob the mechanic threw a party to celebrate. We had potato soup with potato bread, and potato pudding for dessert. And we washed it all down with shots of vodka. We'll have to see about diversifying our crops.

February 6th, 2017
Some more refugees arrived at our camp today. The world seems to be full of people fleeing from one place to another, as we are slowly hunted to extinction by the Infected. They're welcome to stay, now that winter is over we'll need all the help we can get keeping our fields tilled. They're a strange bunch though. One of them is a guy named Gordon. Ein told me he's some kind of theoretical physicist, although where he found that out I have no idea, as the guy is completely mute. Hasn't said a word since he got here. Then there's Carl, a psychologist. He seems like a nice old man. A little weird, but nice. There's also a fisherman named Bill, and a few others whose names I can't recall at the moment. For now, we've got them hauling bags of concrete into the underground tunnels. We're constructing what is hopefully the first of many bunkers here, since that's much safer than being aboveground. This particular bunker will be the shared sleeping quarters for everyone in the camp, men and women. Can't be picky when there are Infected to worry about.

February 14th, 2017
Bob the mechanic came to me with a strange looking contraption today. He says it's called a zip gun, a type of weapon gang members used to make when they couldn't get around gun laws. I asked him where he found it and he told me he made it. Carved it out of fish bones and wood! I asked him if he could make more and he told me certainly, he'd just need ammo. I asked him what kind of ammo it uses and he told me wooden or bone pellets work fine. So now he's making a zip gun for every member of the camp, and I'm busy whittling thousands of pellets. My fingers are so cramped I can barely hold the pen...

February 28th, 2017
We found a horribly mangled goat corpse in the mountains today. An Infected must have ambushed it while it was grazing. Only the Infected could do something as insanely brutal as that.

On an unrelated note, Pathos has been supplying the camp with a steady influx of goat meat. His efforts are extremely helpful.

March 11th, 2017
Life at the camp has been busy as of late. Helping the new refugees adjust, building up our fortifications, and ensuring a steady food supply are all tasks that require a lot of hard work and effort. Today was the first in a long time I've had a moment to sit and think. It's hard to believe it's been over a year since we first arrived here.

March 27th, 2017
When I awoke this morning, I saw smoke rising from a fire on the horizon. As the wind blew over us, I smelled the scent of burning flesh. Whoever is dying out there today, survivor or infected, they were once someone's father or sister, daughter or lover. It's easy to forget that sometimes.

April 9th, 2017
We've set up a shooting range outside the camp. Gaweir, Uci, and Deathlord have been taking turns practicing marksmanship in between their duties. It won't hurt to be well prepared the next time the Infected show up.

May 10th, 2017
Deathlord's aqueduct is complete! Now our encampment will always have a supply of fresh water and fish, even under siege.

May 13th, 2017
The first crop of strawberries has ripened! No more potatoes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!

May 19th, 2017
Wonderful news! Ein and Okenido have finally tied the knot. Those two have had a thing for each other for a long time now. The wedding was a nice change of pace from all we've been going through lately.

Diary of Carl Kinesay: Arrived at camp today, infected nowhere to be seen. I'm really starting to miss the base. This place is okay, but I've grown used to the food and the shelter that can only be found beneath the earth. I wish I could've done something to make up for what I did to the soldiers, but it would take a hell of a heroic deed to make up for what I did. Well, I've got nothing better to do then attempt to survive. Hmmm...... Maybe I could record all that I know on the very rock itself, if we're going to attempt to re-establish civilization; we'd better record what we know in a way that's guaranteed to last.

From the Jornal of Uci:

Well, I did reach my destination, after my squad was killed and after I'd spent a month in the wilderness. As of late, some survivors have arrived. This Gordon blocks gonna be some troble, Keeps grafitieing lamba all over the place and appears to be mute. I'll keep an eye on that one...

The Events of July 9th, 2017
Jenn looked up from her breakfast. Bill was running frantically towards her, waving his arms and screaming. "They're here, they're here!" Jenn leapt to her feet. "Infected?" she asked. She didn't wait for a response. She rushed to the top of the ramparts and looked out at the horizon. A massive horde of Infected, at least 50 strong, was shambling purposefully towards their camp. Two heavily mutated muscular zombies were leading the pack.

Jenn grabbed the air horn hanging from the ramparts and blasted three short honks. There was a flurry of activity as everyone dropped what they were doing and rushed inside the gates. Gaweir and Uci assumed strategic positions on the ramparts beside her. They lifted their zip guns and took aim. Jenn gasped. The zip guns! They'd left them outside the gates! They were still sitting packed in bins in Bob's workshop.

She rushed back down. Everyone crowded around her in a circle with anxious looks on their faces. She quickly explained the situation to them. "We've only got a few minutes before the Infected reach us. Are there any volunteers to go retrieve the guns?" Okenido raised a shaky hand. Jenn hesitated. She felt like a bastard for sending out a newlywed, but Okenido was the fastest runner in the camp, and they didn't have much time. "All right," she said. "We'll lower the bridge for ten minutes, no longer. If you can't make it back by then..." Okenido nodded. As soon as the bridge was down, she slipped outside. She had nearly made it to the workshop when the Infected leading the horde spotted her. He grunted loudly to the rest of the horde and they broke out in a full run towards her. Okenido screamed and started running back towards the camp. She tripped over a rock and sprawled on the ground. She jumped to her feet and started running blindly, not knowing or caring where she ended up, as long as it was away from the Infected.

Meanwhile, Gaweir and Uci opened fire on the Infected. Their shots tore through the Infected, ripping off meat and bone, but they just swayed from the impacts and then kept marching towards the gates. "PULL THE LEVER!!!" screamed Jenn. The drawbridge was still down and the Infected were mere feet away from the gates. A group of four Infected reached the gates. They began battering the wooden structure with their fists, splintering it.

With a last desperate gasp, Bob hurled himself on the lever and pushed it to the ground. Five tense seconds passed as the gears clanked ponderously. Then the bridge slid out from under the Infected and the tumbled into the pit below, with expressions of furious confusion. The remaining Infected stood grunting at the edge of the pit for a few moments, then turned their attention to the buildings around the outside of the camp. They began toppling the hastily constructed wooden shacks, searching for fresh meat within. Gaweir and Uci emptied the last of their ammuntion into the horde, then returned to ground level. The survivors looked at each other grimly. "We're out of ammunition, and there are still at least fifty of them out there," said Gaweir. "And Okenido is out there with them." Jenn glanced around looking for Ein, and realized he was missing. She looked towards his desk in the corner and saw him scribbling furiously. "Three cords of wood, eight heaps of bone... No, no, eight cords of wood, three heaps of bone... dammit!"

"Ein..." Jenn asked as gently as she could, "What exactly are you doing?" "Trying to save Okenido, dammit!" Ein breathed in deeply and tried to calm himself. "Look here, if we disassemble the workshops, that'll give us enough wood for a few hundred rounds of ammo. I'll take a zip gun, and some of the armor, and I'll go out there, and I'll rescue her." The other survivors glanced around uneasily. The rest of them had accepted Okenido as lost. Jenn put her hand on Ein's shoulder. "All right. We'll give you all the support we can. Uci can cover you as you go out, and the rest of us will do our best to hold their attention. Let's get started on those workshops."

Okenido kneeled and tried to catch her breath. She was hyperventilating, her eyes clouding with tears. She glanced quickly behind her. The Infected were swarming around the camp, smashing down the wooden shacks clustered near the walls. She was a few hundred yards away, hidden in a copse of trees. They didn't notice her. She stood up, shakily. The Infected were directly between her and the gates. Even if she could somehow sneak past them, the drawbridge had already been raised. Maybe, if she could get around to the back entrance, she might be able to make it in... but she doubted the other survivors would lower the bridge for her. It wasn't worth risking all their lives just to save her own. She wasn't sure she would do any differently in their situation. She kept one eye carefully on the Infected as she considered the circumstances. The best thing to do would be to circle around through the mountains, and try and sneak in through the back. Having decided on a course of action, she began slowly backing out of the woods towards the river, watching the Infected for any sign that they might have noticed her. She had nearly made it to the river when she heard a sudden roar behind her. She spun around and was faced with another horde of Infected, at least 15 strong. She screamed and ran for the mountains. She was close... she knew this territory well. If she could just make it to the mountains... The Infected loped after her at full pace, but Okenido was extremely fit from four years of working outdoors every day.

Her calf muscles burned as she sprinted ahead of the horde. Soon she had made it up over the foothills and into a valley. She looked behind her. No infected in sight. She bent over for a moment, gasping. She was safe for now.

Ein checked the action on his zip gun. He strapped on a bandolier, and pulled on a pair of leather gloves. "All right," he said. "Now, when I give the signal, you start firing. I'll go out to the left, and then-"
"HEEEEEEEY!!! LOWER THE BRIDGE!!!"
"Okenido!" Ein ran to the top of the wall and looked out. Okenido was running at top speed towards the rear entrance to the fortress. The Infected were milling around the front of the camp, having run out of things to push over. If they spotted her... "Lower the bridge! Lower the bridge!" Ein shouted. Carl was the nearest one to the lever, so he grabbed it and pulled. The bridge thudded down and Okenido nearly flew over it. As soon as she was inside, Carl pushed the lever back up and the bridge retracted. Ein and Okenido embraced each other tearfully. "I was just about to come save you, see?" said Ein, holding up the zip gun with a smile. "Save me?" said Okenido, with a laugh. "I was distracting them to keep them away from you!" The joyful mood quickly turned serious. There was still the issue of the 50 or so Infected outside their gates. But for today, they were all inside and safe.

July 27th, 2017
The Infected remain stationed at the front of our camp. Six of them are trapped in the pit beneath our bridge, and Gaweir has felled one with a lucky shot through the eye. He and Uci continue to take potshots at them with what's left of our ammo, but they're too far out of range for us to do any real damage. Food and water supplies are fortunately high. I wish I could say the same for morale. We've had to dismantle most of the workshops for ammuntion, so no one has any work to do. We tried playing a game of poker, but Gordon always cheats. Pretty much the only things to do are eat, sleep, and watch the Infected go by.

October 10th, 2017
It took three months and countless rounds of ammunition, but we've destroyed every last Infected in the horde. It's finally safe to go outside again.

October 11th, 2017
Gaweir's skills with the zip gun are becoming the stuff of legend. The speed with which he dispatched the Infected has earned him a nickname around the camp: "Gaweir the Silky Rapidity." He spends all his time at the archery range now. I'm glad for his protection, but I'm the one left taking over his chores.

October 13th, 2017
Looks like I spoke too soon. The flies hadn't even settled on the corpses before another Horde showed up at our doorstep. Everyone was still at full readiness from the last attack, so sealing up the camp was a simple matter of protocol.

October 22nd, 2017
The first underground bunker has been completed. It consists of a barracks and food storage area. This place feels more like home now than Camp Four did.

The Events of December 9th, 2017
The survivors assembled in the underground bunker. They listened attentively as Jenn laid out their plan. "Our situation is growing desperate," she stated. "Although we have food and water to last a year or more, our fuel and ammunition are completely depleted. Worse, we're cut off from the outside world. We don't know how long it will be before something draws the Infected away. Carl has been assisting me in tracking their behaviors, and we've noticed that they tend to have periods of inactivity followed by periods of extreme violence. Our plan is to venture outside the camp during one of the periods of inactivity and attempt to retrive as many supplies as we can. Everyone has been given a list of goal and items to retrieve. Are there any questions?" Bill raised his hand. "If'n someone starts gettin' chased by zombies, n' they start runnin' towards the gates bringin' all the buggers runnin' after 'em, are we allowed to shoot 'em fer bein' so goddamn stupid?" Jenn glared at him. "Okay, so the next chance we'll get is in about three hours. Everyone meet up by the front gates before then."

Three hours later
The survivors filtered quietly out over the drawbridge. As they headed out to their assigned tasks, Carl slipped away into the night. His supposed goal was to retrieve the pelts from the ruins of the leather workshop for making armor. He headed in the direction of the workshop, but as soon as he was out of sight he turned and began heading north. He soon reached the foot of the mountains and began following the winding path of the river. Soon the area began to look familiar, and he headed towards an innocuous-looking heap of boulders. He reached into them and pulled out a blinking electronic device. After fiddling with some switches and knobs, he grunted in apparent satisfaction, and returned it to its hiding place. It was risky being out here alone while there were Infected in the area, but it was unlikely he'd get another chance to finish his experiments so soon. He was so close now... Just a few more samples, and he'd have what he needed. He was turning to head back to camp when he heard a rustling in the bushes. He froze, his hand going to the zip gun on his belt. More rustling. He listened carefully. Then he heard the telltale groan of an Infected. He began slowly creeping away from it. Maybe it hadn't heard him... Suddenly there was the loud cacaphony of a Horde being awakened. They rushed out of the bushes at him, arms outstretched. He drew his zip gun and began firing furiously, running backwards, his lab coat flapping in the wind. "Die, you bastards! Die! Die!" He fired round after round into the mass of bone and flesh. A huge muscled Brute pushed its way to the head of the pack. He fired at it, but the rounds were barely more than mosquito bites to a creature so huge. It reached out an immense arm and grabbed him around the neck. It lifted him up to the level of its face and exhaled, putrid waves rolling over Carl's face. He stared back at it and suddenly his eyes grew wide. "D-David..?" he choked out. "I didn't mean for it to happen... I'm... I'm sorry-" His words were cut short as the brute opened its jaws and took a gigantic bite out of the side of Carl's head. Carl screamed as bones crunched. The screaming was abrputly cut short by the loud popping of his skull.

When everyone had reassembled inside the gates, Ein did a headcount and quickly noticed the absence of Carl. "Did anyone see where Carl went?" No one responded. "All right, we'll keep a watch on the walls for him. If he's not back tonight, we'll send out a search party in the morning." Suddenly there was the sound of groans and a stench filled the air. The survivors ventured up onto the ramparts and saw the Infected surrounding their camp. At the head of the pack was a large Brute holding Carl's decapitated body aloft.

Journal Entry 1, Gaweir Orsidious

I know the bossman has been writing in a journal too, and the paper isn't exactly easy to come by, but I managed to sneak away a journal for myself, mostly to pass the time while I'm stuck up here on the ramparts. They even have me taking my meals up here, just so I can take a few shots inbetween bites if I spot a Rotter close enough for me to plug a pellet in its skull.

I would say things have been going better, but besides getting my aim straight with this pellet gun here, we haven't been doing shit about getting ammo. I lost my shotgun awhile back I think. I don't remember that much even. Just cracking a dozen in the face with it and loading my last shell, before running away from that super market. That's when I joined up with that group who took me to exactly where I wanted to go.

I must say this place is actually better then Camp Four. Sure its not as big, and the Rotters smell, but it was the same way with Camp Four, and at least these bastards know how to get a defense together. Those soldiers pissing away their time wasting bullets on zombies not even close to camp, and patrolling around to look for signs of civilization when there was none. Make me sick.

Needless to say, I do want to feel the cold metal grip of a shotgun and all the power behind it again. That's a real weapon, not this peashooter they have me flying. I'll talk to the bossman about getting me a real gun at some point.

So I've been shooting the crap out of these things for the past...oh weeks, months, what have you. I lost track of time in all truth. I found out that there's a few tricks to it, but its mostly shit with the Zip gun that I won't have to remember once I get a shotgun for myself. If you can spot 'em, their eyes and a pellet make for a great target, the bone or wood just bounces around inside their skull fucking with their gray matter. They go down quick after that. And then if you can't get a clear shot, aiming for exposed legs, you can probably shoot it off with the right shots, and that slows them down more then they already are.

That's the thing with these infected. Sluggish all of them. The good part is that you almost side step them while taking shots, but its usually not a good idea because theres so many of them. A proper brawl takes a lot of patience, and a willingness not to do something stupid and try to go toe to toe with them.

These people don't realize what their dealing with here. These things only need one bite and your dead. They rip you apart, and there's usually no way to get to anyone who's gotten a bite on them. You can't fight them on even terms, you have to shoot them from afar, or behind a barricade.

I like the scatter of a shotgun, when their thumping at the gates I can usually get a good spread down below, and push half a dozen back with a blast or two. The pellet guns don't have any kick, you aim for the head or your not doing anything properly with it.

Oh shit. I see one of those big things lumbering towards us. Gonna see if I can get a bead on it.

Nope. Most of the survivors have been locked inside around the clock. I'm trying to give all the characters an equally active role in the story, but I guess I overlooked Louis. I'll try and include him more in the future.

December 10th, 2017
The ugly beast that killed Carl is waiting just out of firing range outside our camp. If the Infected weren't mindless killing machines, I'd say it's almost like he's planning something.

December 17th, 2017
Hiding underground from the Infected, the days grow increasingly monotonous. All those movies you saw about exciting action-packed battles against vicious zombies fail to capture the real truth. The worst part of it all isn't the constant fear that you're going to be eaten at any moment- you get used to that rather quickly. The worst part is having to wait, day after day, not seeing sunlight for weeks at a time, as the Infected stand brainlessly right outside your door. Sometimes I get the urge to rush out there, crowbar in hand, and take as many as I can with me, just to end the boredom. But I can't bring myself to do it. I've still got something left to live for, though I'm not sure what it is.

January 1st, 2018
It's been exactly two years since we arrived at the camp. Since then I've lost seven friends and made many more. I realized today our camp doesn't even have a name. Camp Twelve sounds too sterile. New Camp Four... too idealistic. I'm sure I'll think of something.

January 10th, 2018
I stood on the ramparts for nearly two hours today watching the Infected crawling feebly around in the mud outside. Gaweir and Uci have been using the situation to hone their marksmanship skills, and the Infected are in a pretty bad state thanks to them. They've all lost the use of their legs, and they move by pulling themselves forward with their arms. If they were human, they would have died long ago from their wounds.

January 15th, 2018
The area around the camp has been cleared of Infected, for now. No telling how long it'll last.

Holy smokes, that's some epic storytelling! Looking forward to the next installment.

Also, can I humbly request a survivor/migrant/infected fodder?

Name: Dohon
Occupation: Student
Story: Dohon narrowly escaped the Infected on I-day. His carefree life as a Uni student got smashed to pieces and while it took him quite some effort to not put a bullet through his skull, he has accepted that the world he knew was gone. He was studying to become a communication expert, but since I-day, he has done a bit of everything, doing the odd job here and there. He doesn't have any real skills (except for being a social and likeable fellow), but he is eager to do his part and he will not shy away from doing the 'dirty jobs'. In his mindset, someone has to do those jobs and it might as well be him.

May I please have another survivor to replace Carl?

Name: Cranefly Thompson.

Occupation: Journalist

A somewhat intrepid reporter who probably knows more about both the virus, and the state of the world in general then anyone else around here (which, admittedly, is not much). He came here because of a random attack of infected making him change his destination unexpectedly.
