A village/city management simulation where you send out adventuring parties that bring back loot to your little village. 2d top down vintage graphics. Saw it somewhere a few months ago, probably still in early alpha.

Sounds like it could be Settlers Online or Anno Online.  (they are siblings, both being Facebook-ish games via Ubisoft)

It actually has almost 8-bit or 16-bit graphics, so neither of the above. I can't recall if I found it through B12 or RPS. Not on facebook (as far as I'm aware).

Perhaps Adventurer Manager, then?

At the time I don't think it was on steam or had a battle scene style but it's quite possible it's been greenlit and updated. This looks almost the same, thanks!

Friend wants me to hunt down a game of our tender years.

Platform: Apple IIGS
Genre: Roguelike?
Name: "Quest for the Ring(s)" is as close as he can remember.

It was a simple, single character roguelike with an overworld map. That's about all I have to go on.

Almost certainly Ring Quest, but I can't find anything that's still online about it.

Edit: Hm, maybe, maybe not. This look familiar?

Mmmm, don't think so. He was pretty emphatic it was a roguelike with your standard top-down view, not a text-adventure game. I personally don't recall playing this game at all. Thanks for the look up though!

Found a couple references to something called "Raiders of the Lost Ring" which seem to be completely different games of the same name:

Neither of these are what you want, so I'm going to guess that your friend is off the mark on the name.  Lots of single character top-down RPGs though.

"Phantasie" could be one character, or you could take more.  Top down, has a world map.

"Telengard" was more of a roguelike (rogue predecessor, I think actually) but I dont think it had a world map.

Neither of those are as good as Bouchart's submission.

Yeah, Xyphus is making his brain fire off random memories of something. Going to look for some gameplay videos, or something. Thanks!

edit

Not Xyphus. This game was a single character RPG like Dragon Warrior 1 for the Nintendo. The hunt continues!

Narp.

He said the starting wizard spell was something like Stone Fist or Iron Fist, if that helps.

Here's a list of Apple II roleplaying games but it might not be complete.

Oh, shoots, GS.  Scratch everything I said previously.  Those were from another era.
