Now might be a tough one...

It was sci-fi side-scrolling shooter. It was released ~2000 I guess.

It was about small ship coming toward armada of aliens and of course blowing it up. Main bosses were mostly giant ships/robots which often 'opened' themselves to shoot out giant laser at you. Giant lasers of eveyr kind were basically everywhere in this game.

The objects in the game were comprised mostly of spherical/eliptic shapes and thanks to the cheap shading, they 'looked' as if they were 3D.

It had some backstory that you learned about after finishing the game. I also remember there was a mission with Jupiter in the background and the boss of that area looked like a tank.

I also think the game started with 'A' and ended with 'gi', the title sounded kinda japanese. I might be totally wrong about that part, though.

This one might be interesting:

It was a sort of indie Doom-clone. Pseudo 3D environments, enemies were flat sprites. Heavy focus on melee combat with only a few guns.

The cool thing was that is was mostly voice-acted and had multiple paths/endings. The story involved the main character's daughter being kidnapped.

At one point, you fight expies of The Village People in a bar.

I like this thread, but a few things would really help out in trying to identify some of these games:

- actual guesses at the year or era that it might be from.  "this is an old one" does not help at all, for some people old games were on a vectrex, others old means they played on AOL or Prodigy or WWIV, and others still are talking about stuff from 5 years ago.  Likewise, "I was xx years old" could be improved.  There is a big age spread here, we dont know if you were four years old in 1985 or in 2005, it could easily be either one.

- at a minimum the PLATFORM should be something you remember.  Console?  Handheld or mobile device?  PC?  Mac?  Standup arcade machine?  Mainframe terminal you used in college?

- going with visceral memory as something that should be fairly reliable, if you REALLY dont know the platform, maybe you remember if there was a keyboard, mouse, joystick or gamepad involved?  light gun?  did it take a cartridge, disk(ette), tape player, CD, laser disc, or what?  these sorts of things are not 100% of course, but better than nothing.

Oh, and Markus, yeah, I'm totally stumped.  I dont have a whole lot of experience with Japanese games though, but I think there are some pretty dedicated communities for that kind of stuff. Maybe ask elsewhere? I once found a great answer to a question about an old game on a C64 emulator community website so sometimes you just need to find a specialist.

-snip-

Sounds like a Gradius game. I remember playing Gradius III on the SNES, but that was released in '91... not sure about any of the others.

PC game, side view. There were monkeys (orangutans?) and the goal was to reach some kind of teleporter at the end of the level.

A game kinda like NS2 but older, and when you walked on walls your view flipped in the right direction. You started as this kinda mite thing, people could build things by themselves,... Im trying to remember the name but I cant.
Tremulous?

Thanks, thats it!

It's all based off a Quake Mod though, Gloom though no-one seems to remember.

A flash game. You were a bald guy dressed in blue with a big-ass sword. The view was top-down and you had to slash different types of blobs running around the screen; the easy ones were just green harmless blobs which could melt into each other there were carnivorous blobs, spiked blobs, oily blobs, explosive blobs... Any idea?

Amorphous+ is some fun stuff, I tell ya what.

That'd be Action DooM 2: Urban Brawl.

I was like, ha, this looks like a pretty dumb and boring game. I was so wrong. Gentlemen, I have discovered true fun.

Nah, I've checked Gradius series on my first look for this game, and that's definitely not it :c
