Hmm, no it definitely wasn't Gaia Attack Four. I saw this game way back in the early 2000s, and (IIRC) the guns were fixed-mounted and looked more like machine guns than pistols. I'll try asking on those other forums you linked.
I recall seeing one many years ago(early 2000s would be right), I think it was called "Gunblade"(I have no idea why), but I only remember it only being 2-player(since there was certainly not enough room in the place to hold four players). It definitely had big, mounted machineguns as the controllers. Definitely sci-fi-themed(defending Earth from aliens in the future, I think). I am unsure if the player's shared a health bar, but they probably did, since the viewpoint was from some kind of helicopter or gunship.

Gunblade is indeed an awesome game, but I don't think that was it. I've seen Gunblade in several arcades while the one I'm thinking of I only saw once, and in Gunblade each player had a separate health bar.

I also think I misremembered the year I saw this mystery game: we were in Disney World for my sister's sixth birthday, which would make it 1998, not quite the early 2000s.

Ok, I've been trying to find an old game that I played years ago, but so far no luck. Here is how the game is:

It's a snowball 2D game. In the beginning, you have some time to build your defenses before a wave of enemies appears. You can build snow walls, catapults, and stuff. You fought the enemies by using snowballs or using the catapults.  You could play it with a friend on the same keyboard as well. I remember that after some time, some bigger enemies appeared. I *think* that I played it on Windows 98, a long time ago.

Edit:

So far, the only thing I found was another guy looking for the same game, but unfortunately it doesn't seem that anyone answered him. *sigh*

"Can somebody PLEASE help me find this game i have been looking for it for over 5 years with not one bit of success.
It runs on windows 95, 98 or Me. I was able to download it at download.com at the time. The goal of the game was to build a barrier or a fence and to build catapults that way when your timer runs out you can be protected from and attack the next wave of enemies. I believe you could launch snowballs and rocks and maybe you could throw snowballs by hand too but my memory is a tad fuzzy. Please if anyone could help i would be forever grateful thank you!"

Why is this so hard to find? :'(

Edit 3:

Ok, I found the name of the game, and discovered that it was made by the same guy who created Spelunky. The name of the game is Snowbrawl. BUT I CAN'T FIND A DOWNLOAD LINK ANYWHERE! ARRRRRGHHHHH!

A screenshot of the game:

Oh man, the hardest part, that was finding the name of the game, I did. But I can't find the download anywhere now. Argh, argh, argh! Not even in his website! He has 3 screenshots of the game, but not a download link. *siiigh*

Edit 4:

Yay, found the download link in some spanish abandonware site. Yahoo!

Can't find this, probably because it was obscure.

It was basically a PS2 game. The entire concept was that you would log in to this fictional online virtual reality site, and buy and fight mechs. It was a FPS or third-person shooter, can't remember which. I do remember that you would have four weapon slots, one for each shoulder button, that all had seperate damage and ammunition. There would be crates that would pop up that you could grab for things, and there were different types of fights, but most of them would be you and a team in some crazy lit up arena duking it out. There was some kind of story, too. You also could buy avatars to represent you, that were just random images (like a cat, I think?). Or maybe they were the avatar for your mech's AI, I can't remember which.

So a game like Temple Run, really really really old, you are running (towards a temple?) and you have to dodge various obstacles like arrows being shot at you. Also really old game.

"Pitfall", or "Paganitzu" are two that come to my mind that fit that. "Pitfall" more then "Patanitzu" because you didn't mention puzzles.

Though, really old is a big variable here. From screenshots, "Crash Bandicoot" looks like it had similar gameplay.

Sounds like Phantom Crash.

I do actually have one of my own questions: So a while back I played a neat naval MMO. The game played a lot like Sid Meyers Pirates!, in that one could rove a ship around the world, and enter battles with pirates to sink them and get their stuff (WASD controls). It also had a 'boots on ground' melee combat sort of play in addition(WoW controls). I recall starting somewhere in Italy and getting my butt handed to me by crabs multiple times, while trying to level up my H2H. Ships had a variable 'cannon' stat, and cannons were pretty much just a number. But it also had a curious figure head thing you could attach to a ship for bonuses. Help?

The only game I've seen like that is Uncharted Waters Online. Hopefully that's what you're looking for.

I think I remember a game like that, though I don't remember the name either.

I think I played Pirates of the Burning Sea at one time, but that might not be it.

I played a demo of it on PS1 waaaaay back when I could barely remember. It was basically a scrolling shoot-em-up where you flew this little spaceship around. There were a couple different ships to choose from IIRC, the ships had "futuristic" weapons like lasers, etc, and you had to use them to kill other ships, which came down from the top and sides of the screen.

Medieval game where you where a character in a dungeon. One of the player characters you could choose was this dumbass knight with almost no armor but pants and a horned helmet which you could only see red eyes in. Some enemies where slimes, vampires, and skeletons, there where monster spawners and all sorts of gimmicks. Top down style.

Hate to tell you but there's a lot of games that meet your description.  You might want to start with this list here.
