Not a game, but it's an old screensaver from the early 90s, I think it was the windows 3.whatever era, though it MAY have been just after we go 95, not sure. Anyways, it was a guy standing on a dessert island in the middle of the ocean, and every once in a while he'd do something funny. I used to get up early to watch it as a kid, I was a strange kid.

Screen Antics Johnny Castaway screensaver.

Anyways, mine is and isometric RTS from the early 2000's around '01 or '02. It was kinda dark and gritty. I remember the menus being stylized like some sort of medieval lab or something, sandbox or skirmish was called experimentation or something like that and I think there was a game mode or option marked by a flask or something.

The game itself started with your main building and you could build these collection structures around the map and they would drain these lakes or holes or whatever convert them into useful stuff and send them back to your main building. One interesting mechanic is that if the collector was too far away you'd need to build these transmission towers made of stone with these metal rings on top or something which would transfer resources further to the main base.

Hmm...I can't think of the name completely, but I remember playing a demo of a dark fantasy RTS called something-strife. Shadowstrife or Darkstrife or something like that. I do remember one of the factions was Dark Elves.

Edit: Remember the name, it was called "Strifeshadow".

Strategy game set somewhere between WW2 and now, real detailed like Hearts of Iron III, but the kicker was it actually listed specific units for the different countries based on what they historically had. I even think you could modify and update designs, stuff like that.

Does this game exist? I remember it being really daunting, if that helps. Hope I'm not just making it up in my head.

I've never played Hearts of Iron III, but I do have some games that sort of fit the bill.

The first is Moscow to Berlin: Red Siege, made by Cinemaware Marquee. It's more of a historically accurate RTS.

The second is Cuban Missile Crisis: The Aftermath, by 1C. It's kind of an alternate history where the aforementioned situation went much worse than it did in real life.

If neither of those are the correct game, check out their developers. I seem to recall them being big makers of hstorical strategy games.

@ Mech#4
And so it is, I too rememberd that the name had something darkness related in it, just never could figure out what it was, thank you very much for that :D

@Talfryn, could it be the Making History series?

They're WW2 based and are similar to HoI in execution but are simplified in some aspects and are much more focused on keeping track with the historical events.

THAT is my childhood. I remember I was always going to sleep watching that.

Not really a "can't remember the name" as a plea for similar games...

Craving RPGs with base-building sections that aren't Hinterland. Can be on any platform, thinking similar to the Suikoden series (love them all) but with a little more base customisation?
A longshot, but the old Birthright: The Gorgon's Alliance was a strategy game where you could send your heroes to various dungeons. A very innovative and original game, but - as many of such gems - flawed and unpolished.

maybe King of the Dragon Pass - shamefully obscure pearl in which you are the ruler of a celtic tribe.

I remember an old game (probably 5 years ago?)
where you can select a light/heavy/medium car and you had to destroy a super huge truck crawling to your base

you had also to drive trucks home to gather resources for the heavier vehicles.

It was 3d, and had mostly only one level, probably it was a demo of a game never released.

it supported multiplayer.

edit:
nevermind it was Goliath

I haven't forgotten the name of it, but I'm wondering if anybody has a download mirror of the original version of Little Fighter 2. The new version has lame rock music playing through the entire thing that can't be shut off, lags like crazy for some reason, and is absolutely plastered with ads for Marti Wong's other games. It's a damn shame, because the original is one of the best indie games ever.

Mmmm i once saw a screensaver, it was an interactive one. It was a planet surface and each time you were clicking you sent an asteroid on it it was pretty cool. Also Nvidia made some kind of 3d spatial background desktop ( instead of a still image it was a fully rendered 3d solar system ).

Those are 2 im trying to find out but i cannot remember what i was.

DF doesn't mold players into its image - DF merely selects those who were always ready for DF.

Minecraft UI is very simple. There's only so many ways you can implement "simple" without copying something. We also gonna complain that it uses WASD?

How do you click things on a screensaver?

Though I have seen the desktop background. IIRC it was actually a galaxy.

the click and mouse movement was registred for the screensaver, you had to press a keyboard key to get out of it, it was made by nvidia same for the background if i remember right, or was it a directX screensaver? i cant remember.

[Windoze] Screensaver is just a regular .exe renamed as .scr and registered in the system / placed in the right folder. So it can do whatever.

's just that most screensavers go off when the mouse moves/a key is pressed. Though I suppose it makes sense that they don't really bother whether or not the user is there since nobody really owns a screen that needs a screensaver anymore.

I remember playing this one a few years ago.
It was a flash game.
You played a spider thing with 3 legs.
You could stick web-strands to things, IRC.
The goal was to get an egg from the start of the level to the end.
Most of the games levels were rocky, cliffy things, with some caves near the end?
