Pick one with good Survival skills?  Woodcraft and timbercraft?  I was browsing the FAQ, and houses sound kinda important.  Owl-Tribe?

I'm sure it can't matter too much, and I'm trying to be less geeky, so no FAQ for me.  So I ended up being more geeky, and trying to look up more about Simo Hayha.

Seal-Clubber or Pastamancer, I think. Both give you some necessary skills, so they should be either you first or second ascension.
