Try and find a homeless, hungry Chinese man.. it's pretty rare, they take good care of their own.

I'm not sure being a peasant or migrant worker counts as "good care".

You're forgetting that Happiness != Quality of life.

Nigeria is measured as one of the happiest countries on earth. Take a good look at the quality of life there.

Chinese have a VERY LOW quality of life.

But, as quality of life increases, so does entertainment and such stuff that make you happy. If you became happier than you've ever been, it's going to be hard to become happy again without coming close to that happiest moment.

Yes, the curse of electricity, proper calorie intake, and clean water.  Ennui.

Exactly. As quality of life increases, so does the minimum bar of the "happy" state.

You have a good point. Nigerians get laid a lot. Chinese don't, because the government taxes and discriminates against them for it :P

One, I fail to see who there is any "problem" with Internet porn.  Any problem.

Two, I fail to see how regulating people's Internet access at all could be anything less than "too far".

Personally I think our government (I'm Chinese) is being very stupid in all the censoring stuff. This is certainly more about politics than porn, but what is wrong with the politics? I live abroad, free from censoring, and have seen how much of the world reacts to us. Not at a personal level - I don't think anyone here really hates China, but the system is certainly against us as a country. Countless lies and biased reports just fuel this kind of, well, whatever. Just look at last year's riots in Tibet and the torch relay. Anything from within China will be labelled "according to state media", and anyone defending China's point of view will be discredited as being paid by the government to comment. I think the Chinese government should let the people see these things and simply realize that we need no more social turmoil.
Having said that, the general standard of education in China is still poor. Knowledge, not ways of thinking, are taught. Most people have little critical thinking ability and will happily follow any rumors, however ridiculous they might be. For example, rumors about a traffic accident's "final decisions" have been circulating on the internet even well after the official source said "we are still investigating", and lots of attacks on the government followed. People do actively make and circulate these things (yes, I guess I was wrong about humanity), and there are enough from within China even with the censoring. As someone living outside the homeland, the last thing I want is chaos back home. It is also true that living standards in many parts of China are very poor. There are certainly many homeless and hungry people. Whatever chaos, which is actively promoted by many of the subjects of this censoring, would only worsen the situation. Without a stable environment in which to, well, do stuff, improvement wouldn't be possible. Maybe people are worth given the whole picture after they become more mature.
Last but not least, ANYTHING CAN BE CRACKED! ;D Actually I heard it's already been done, so the anger is more on developing such a poor software using taxpayer's money.

No effective way to children off of it.  Many sites also host computer viruses.

Because its totally not the parents responsibility in any way to ensure their child doesn't look at naught images. We should totally give up any freedoms of speech over the internet so that Lazy Joe over there can dump his kid at the PC while he drinks beer and watches the football.

I was 11 when I discovered internet pornography. I still remember having to wait and wait for each image to load. Now there's videos that load in a flash! Kids these days are spoiled!

That being said, my parents (or anyone else) are not responsible for my viewing of pornography. I read the rules, and realised that I was committing a crime. Any effort to limit the access of pornography to children is bound to backfire, because well, children are goddamn smart. If they want pornography, they'll look at it. If they can't find, they'll do it the old fashioned way...Using the underwear and bikini section from the Sears Catalogue.

China has an ulterior motive. They are hoping to gain public support by declaring that their battle is against internet pornography. It's not. They're shutting down and censoring blogs and forums. Blogs and forums are the main sources of political dissent, and the government hopes to shut them down freely without the public complaining (using blogs and forums)  because of the war against vile pornography. Websites, forums and blogs referencing a recent online petition, calling for democracy were the first to fall victim to the war against pornography. The war is a pretty good strategic move, from the view of the CCP.

What's the point of censoring porn anyway?
I don't get it.

It is just a cover-up. Like swamp gas or Operation Iraqi Liberation (what's the acronym for that? OIL).

You know who else censors porn? Japan!

But... They don't... Oh fuck it. Just search for censored hentai images. You'll know what I mean.
