Making an existing creature resident
« on: June 09, 2009, 09:52:30 am »

I've read some stories that state it's possible to use certain tools to make creatures friendly on your map.  I've got a fire imp that I got lucky capturing as soon as I embarked, and some 16 years later I'd like to think we've socialized it a bit, so I want to convert it and let it out (in it's own little environment.  For the safety of everyone.)   Can anyone give me advice on how to make it a sentient friendly creature?

assuming it hasn't killed anyone, add the [PET] tag and then tame it using the kennel.

For some semblance of balance you should give it the [EXOTIC_PET] tag, meaning it can be trained but only by a Dungeon Master immigrant noble.

To reiterate, animals that have killed a dwarf can never be truly tamed. Your dwarves will trick themselves into thinking its tamed, but the "pet" will continue to attack and kill them forever.
