a certian type of game
« on: June 09, 2009, 03:08:06 am »

anyone know of a game where you have an open world, miles across and wide, where you can keep building fortresses if you lose one and get enough guys out to start another, and try to take everything over.

if its got Ai then it has to be so the AI dont have that ability in every other game with Fog of War to be able to tell where you are all the time.

something like a uberlarge mapped stronghold would be cool

Despite all of that I still wonder when people will resume the translation of Corpse Party.

The first episode was quite good, simple gameplay, nice atmosphere, and decent plot to boot.
I might as well start studying my Japanese. Again...

I do find your thread hard to be taken seriously.

So I tried to start a conversation in which at least some people here wouldn't of known the answer to.

Everything he described is currently in Dwarf Fortress. Apart from maybe taking everything over, but you can still embark on towns and goblin fortresses and attack. I didn't see Micro type anything about the map being continuous from one side to the other while building.

I find it ironic that you post this question on the Bay 12 Games forum.

Gah! Stupid question is stupid!

But if you're really serious, check out Supreme Commander. It has the biggest maps you can find in a RTS.

ive played supreme commander, and dwarf fortress doesnt have any AI. they come in a seige but those are far too easy to defeat, and you have no way to take over forts. you spawn with one on your area and its allied.

i want a game similiar to most RTS's but theres a huge world map and having your base destroyed means you dont lose, but you can run far far away and try to rebuild.

Haven&Hearth...  it's online though, and any "units" you might have are likely to literally have a mind of their own. :)

Other than that...  gee, I don't know. Apart from DF, there is no game in existence that's vast, open, realtime, and allows constructing fortresses. You could try playing SimAnt, but that's a slightly different league.

Turn-based games offer this in copious amounts, starting from the first ever Civilization, but their scope and scale is the entire reason they're turn-based.

For the most part, the game you are looking for is best searched for among online games. They take quite a bit more effort to get into than single-player games, but offer a lot more variation.
