Stranded! (Succession fort)
« on: June 08, 2009, 06:17:00 pm »

Anybody interested in setting up a succession game?

Rules as follows:

1.  There shall be no preparation for the embarking.  Skills and equipment will be random.
2.  No mods or cheats (savescumming, REVEAL etc)
3.  The original seven dwarves will be named after myself and the first other six players in order of top to bottom.
4.  The embark site will contain at least a river, magma and Other Features.
5.  If you can't be bothered to write, then don't bother applying.
6.  Each player will take control for a year at a time, moving back to the first player when all others have played.
7.  Players will have 2 days to respond to PM and a week to play their turn before being skipped.
8.  For the love of Armok, PLEASE label your levers!

I'm willing to go with the flow as to what kind of embark site players want.

Post here if interested.

I'll start the game after we can get the numbers up to seven.

Just two days? That's cruel :-\ Someof us have job to do and classes to attend.

How about two days to start and a week to finish? Oh, and get rid of the e-mail address. We can send e-mails through our profiles, but everyone likes pms better.

I'll be in if that time changes.

Okay sure, timescale changed.

Players will have two days to respond and a week to play out their year.

Any suggestions on an embark site?

Well, we could have some fun (aquifer+salt water), or some more fun (hanted/sinister mountains, possibly with magma and HFS). I have good starting profile for aquifer+salt water region. It allows to punch through aquifer quickly and gives time to build desalinization plant (i.e. bring 400 units of booze :D ). Here it goes:

Sinister mountains would be cool though and magma is a definite.
I'm still to ever come across HFS though.  Don't actually know what it is...

Oh, sorry, I forgot. And HFS? That's Hidden Fun Stuff. It surely involves puppies at some point.

Welcome aboard Jakkarra  ;D

An Island eh?  That could be pretty awesome.  Do other Civs still turn up though?

apparantly, dwarves do turn up. however, unless another Civ is on the island too we won't get anyone else.

HOWEVER!

this could be a very nice role-playing opportunity.

building a fort from just the original 7, unless we wish to abandon and reclaim for a few extra ones. and we play from there?

don't think we get any migrants either...

Well, it'd be simple enough to find/make a Dwarf-less world.

And NO extras. Only babies! Lots and lots of babies!

Could be interesting to do, we'd have the way clear to build extreme megastructures.
But then again seven dwarves is quite limiting and to many players conflict is essential.
I tell you what.  How about each of the first seven players gets to put forward an idea for their ideal embark location and then we each vote for which we think would be the most fun / 'FUN' (obviously you can't vote for your own idea)

I'll take a turn! I really need to play more mature forts than getting bored of them in the 4th year when there is little to do but wait and see if your defense is going to hold a siege

I want the expedition leader whoever he might be, name him sausage, ruler of all the known universe and make him a mechanic (no matter what his skills)

Of course, why else would dwarves risk life and limb to retrive one sock during a full scale siege onslaught.
The depressing thing is that they quite often lose life and limb(s) in the process.

I agree with the Island thingymabob...

can we have it on a heavily forested 3x3 island? My computer absolutely cannot finish a fifth year fort in a week unless its using all the current FPS maximizing techniques...

(it can but it takes about 10 hours total... +writing, that's a LOT)
