Those crazy Europeans, always coming up with new ways to dominate the world.

yarrr!!

Pull me lever and call me shrimpy!

I wanted to vote for these dogs. :D (Sissy frenchies were trying to make copyright laws even more draconian!) (motion didn't pass)
Darn system only lets you vote for local/national party's european delegates though. :(
So me vote went to a tiny pro-euro/democratic reform party.

As some one who would probably be living in a crappy apartment and be even skinnier than I am now if the Pirate Party had its way, I have to say, they are selfish and retarded.  Copyrights don't just protect authors and musicians, they protect the people who work for them.  Pirating is also bad for the economy; less monetary flow.  It's like cutting a huge chunk of an industry out of the economy.

nah. copyright isn't there for the artists anymore (if it ever was), it is for the publishers.

It is just that I don't like gov't imposing their limits on my freedom of movement and action.
I got my own, more moral than any politicians', moral system thank you. :)
I hate the crud I am required to suffer through at the start of DVDs I buy legally! I really do, and I don't want crud on our internet. Freedom! I don't want chinese internet, haven't got the fonts installed.

I don't have much money, but I pay the people who are good to me and give me access to their stuff for free and only ask for what I think it is worth, such as Toady1, the people behind Spybot and Hitmanpro and so on. :D
That is unless they demand I do so by creditcard or international cheque. :(

Even though I download some stuff occasionally, I buy official stuff more often.
Usually I am disappointed by new publications though, so if artists are getting less money, it probably is because more crap is produced nowadays, more good stuff too, but there is just so much of it, it is hard to see the diamonds in the sewer. As for software: I buy a good game. But I can understand why many don't, if the stupid box is empty of content besides the software which is an unpatched, badly regionalised version which can only be installed X times or requires you to crawl through several miasmas to register.
Heh. used to be registration was only for waranty. On those silly cards. I remember not sending most of them.

ack! enough ranting. :P

Stuff that is beyond quality is what I pay for!
Have you anti-piracy guys donated yet? :)

Toady One's work is quite different from that which is pirated, actually.  He chose to put DF online for free download, only requesting that we consider making a donation.  Internet pirates, though, take things that are not theirs to give and give it away.  This, despite what you may think, does in fact protect authors as well as publishers - authors do get royalties.  Regardless, my previous statement remains true; copyright laws protect not only companies but their honest workers as well.  As for DVD's, you get a 5-second blurb about copyright, and then you can skip to the menu.

I remember those unskippable anti-piracy ads getting to the length of 2 minutes.

You know if people didn't pirate there wouldn't be anti-piracy ads.  Just what dvd's are these that have those 2 minute ads?  I've never encountered them.

They are mostly on budget DVDs.

My deluxe boxed set of the Lord of the Rings is fine, but my copy of the dark crystal has this unskippable Donotevercopystuffitisevilandwillrotyourbrainandwearegoingtofindyouwhenyoudoandsueyourassinjailtheymakepiratessuckdickandthenyoudieofaidsyoufilthycopyrightinfringingmiscreant intro.

edit: by copy I mean not copied by me but by the corp.

It also doesn't help to make the pirated copy the superior version.

Anyhow, I am not against copyright perse. Only I feel the methods that are proposed every few months are too draconian to not abuse.

I wish pirates would post the address/bankaccount of the author with warez, or something, so that good people who like the stuff that was pirated can pay tribute.
Their publishers would never allow that offcourse, they would sue their authors for piracy (eg earning from pirated material.)

Heard mixed comments on iTunes. but what about those that are too obscure to be downloadable by itunes?

Yeah, those anti-piracy ads are insanely irritating. I'm tempted to start handing out free DVDs every time I see one.

Piracy usually happens only when people aren't willing to pay for the product in any regard, whatsoever. That said, making piracy harder to do isn't a bad idea--it'll force people to pirate less, and either go without or buy more. (Generally, they'll go without, but that's not a horrible thing, in the long run.)

Copyright laws and crap don't make piracy harder.
They make getting stuff the legit way harder.
This actually encourages piracy.
