I noticed something about HFS
« on: June 06, 2009, 09:25:45 pm »

It seems that depending upon the demon that spawns, there will be different kinds of creatures and substances appear in the pit.

With Frog demons there will be toads and other water vermin in the pit, along with water instead of magma.

Tentacle demons have a ton of crazy elves, humans, and dwarfs. And magma.

Spirits of Fire have tons of ashes and magma, with some crazy people hanging around.

This is all from observation and many dead dwarfs.

Start a research thread. Tell us everything, so we may incorporate it into the wiki. For reference.

I always heard tentacle demons had...something else... a secret hidden third liquid in the pools of the pit.  Though I never actually encountered tentacle demons specifically to be sure.

P.S. As an addition, I'm pretty sure I saw engravings of things burning in spirit of fire pits, and drowning in Frog Demon pits as well.

I myself had frog demons in my latest fortress. The pit came with everything that is typical of HFS, namely: Crazy civilians, caged civilians, ash, upright spears, spots of water, and spots of magma.

The engravings do relate to whatever type of demon you get though, as I believe that is decided during World Gen (related to history).

most of its been repeatedly confirmed, some of its in the wiki already.  frog demons have water, tentacle deamons have white stains on the ground that say "unknown substance" or something like that.

theyre all pretty well themed, though there are doubtless some other random and shared elements like magma and types of prisoners.

Tentacle demon pits are also filled with intricately-carved engravings of all the noble races committing "depraved acts" upon one another. Probably explains why all the captives are all so insane and filthy.

It's pretty clear that these tentacle demons are Japanese Tentacle Rape Monsters.

We all knew that.  Incidentally, doesn't the sudden prescence of all these random carvings make your fortress quite a lot more valuable?

If the demons don't kill you, the sieges and immigrants will.

Actually it's more valuable from the get-go, the carvings are counted right from the start, even if you havn't revealed the HFS yet.

I had a fort that was worth nearly a million dwarfbucks on embark thanks to engraved adamantium floors and walls in the HFS.

All I have is a massive chasm full of GCS and a bottomless pit.  Do they count for anything?

Actually, I've already found some gold and Tetrahedrite which was revealed by the pit.  Now part of my fort looks out over the chasm.  Meh, just wanted to spook my miners.  Also, I hope that by dumping some of the worthless stone in my fortress down the pit the ratmen at the bottom will be terrified.

Tentacle demons come with three liquids: A brown one, a green one and a white one, if I remember correctly. The brown and the green one are labeled "filth" and the white one is labeled "unknown substance". Engravings are of sentients committing depraved acts upon themselves and other beings.

Spirit of Fires have engravings of dead sentients, terrified sentients, etc.
