Does anyone know of any good 4X rts space games.

I already tried Sins and AI war and liked them but are there anymore?

There was a game we're you commanded a ship with your entire species survivors on it as you tried to find another home world. It was 3d and more or less a 4x (there were missions in the campaign). I believe it was called Homeworld.

Homeworld is an RTS but I wouldn't call it 4X.

i was recently turned onto ai war, and its pretty good.  RTS and 4x are usually mutually exclusive though, and i wouldnt really call ai war a 4x.  the developer was answering posts over on the RPG Codex forums, and he also said it wasnt 4x, so its not just me.

the kind of logistical management and empire building you need to do in a 4x really requires some sort of turn based structure.  Sins pulls it off pretty well in real-time, but i just couldnt get into that one.

if youre willing to budge on the whole 4x thing and just go with real-time strategic space combat, i'd hold my breath for this one:  http://positech.co.uk/gratuitousspacebattles/ or dig up an old copy of Homeworld or Homeworld 2.

Strangely enough I like "star wars - empire at war".

It sort of does both genres half assed, but I think thats necessary-ish if you want both in one game.

The thing I really like about it, is how easy it is to multiplayer. Totally hassle-free, no waiting for turns and still playable.

I can, however, imagine that it can be easy to detest that game, so take with a grain of salt. But I surely enjoy it.

Wait, what?  Last I played, the only multiplayer in EAW was the battles (which were the only part of the game that was RTS).  And I really wouldn't call it 4x...

Campaign mode can only be played with 2 players (expansion set maybe with 3 then since you get a new faction?) but it has everything you need for the 4x genre.

Dyson is a reasonable little game its not really 4X and its not about conquering planets as much as its about conquering asteroids, very minimalist. It is however an RTS of sorts and its worth a try.
